Mangalore: 'Rampa' Tulu Comedy Movie's Name to be Changed?

Mangalore, Jul 26: On Monday July 23, actress and producer Namratha Hegde announced the news of her new movie 'Rampa' that is going to hit the screen next month, much to the delight of Tulu movie fans.

She had clarified that the movie's name had nothing to do with any personality, living or dead.

Daijiworld has learnt that the family of Rampa, who was a well-known personality from Mangalore has objected to the name, and alleged that his name was being misused to mock him.

Soon after the news was published on daijiworld, several readers said that the name ressembles the actual personality and should hence be changed.

A family member of Rampa, who spoke to daijiworld on condition of anonymity said that several people from abroad called the family after reading the movie name on daijiworld, and said that it would be a gross 'misuse' of the great legend's name.

Now, sources close to daijiworld have disclosed that the producer of the movie is considering a change in the movie's name, as the intention of the movie is not to hurt anyone but to provide clean comedy to all Tulu movie lovers.

The role of Rampa too was shown in a positive manner, and there was no question of hurting anyone, daijiworld has learnt.

An official announcement could be expected from the producer in the coming days.

    People are very intolerant. A developing society should allow people to have freedom of expression. A title of "Rampa" does not mean any disrespect. As the other gentleman has commented that even he is known as Rampa, there are millions of people with that name perhaps. So we should allow Ms hegde to go ahead with her film.

    All say that Tulu has few movies and when someone invests money and make a film, there are 100 problems created for them. Don't know when we will learn.

    What's in a 'Name'? Now we all know. Humour brings smiles, black humour inflicts pain. Our country
    in fact is 'witness' to all kinds of jokes on it's greatest leaders, freedom fighters and who not !

    There's a 'limit' however one should not exceed and the wishes of family members in this regard must be respected. The punch line however in case of living ones is that 'one who laughs at others , should be ready to laugh at or 'take it' upon himself'!

    It (Rampa-Films name)clearly indicates that people of Mangalore are not happy with name especially Billawa Community( not only Billawa Community it will hurt whole tulunad community). Degrading /Joking/ insulting / taking people for granted is not agood move. that too such a sincere great Badavara Bhandu, Billawa leader Mr Ramappa. If you want fun, if you have daring make it on some useless persons like against corrupted politicians, Gundas etc.

    I request whole Billawa community (other communities also,nobody likes ie matured people insulting human beings) to come forward to protest against the name. Also request Mr Ramappa Family strongly oppose this name. Let them not take any body for granted.Billawa Community is presently one of the Strongest Communities physically, mentally,fiscally,professionally, educationwise, etc..etc....let any body not test our patience ....we also can show what we are........

    I agree with the suggestion that the name 'Rampa' of the Tulu Comedy movie should be changed. As it is they made jokes on Rampa - It wlll definitely hurt the members of great Ramapanna a kind hearted personality.

    Rampa's family should take this matter in a Right and Sportive spirit. Offcourse even i remembered same RAMPA of mangalore when i read about this movie, but let me remind you all, This movie may or may not relate to this rampa we are reffering to, but definitely this Rampa will be become more and more popular in coming days all across the world and in new generation who never heard of this rampa so far.. In democratic country any movie can be named after anyone, Rampa need not be the same person of mangalore as his family members claims to be, it can be anyone. What They should think is that because of this movie if their family member can become popular for free of cost and without hurting the sentiment of anyone what they are going to loose... Think positive....
