Mangalore: Chaos, Clash Among Party Workers Mar J R Lobo's Entry into Congress

Mangalore, Jul 28: Chaos prevailed at district Congress party office here on Saturday July 28 during a ceremony to mark former MCC commissioner J R Lobo's entry into the party.

Daijiworld was the first to break the news of J R Lobo joining Congress on July 25, and accordingly, a function was organized at the Congress office on July 28 to mark his entry. However, the entire programme ended up in a physical fight and clashes among the party workers leaders.

As the programme began, compere Sadashiv took charge and addressed the gathering. However, as there was no mike, his voice was not sufficiently heard. Irked by this, former mayor Ashraf began demanding for a mike, and was soon joined by the party workers.

At this, MLA Ramanath Rai stood up from his seat and began to pacify the crowd, but in vain.

At the same time, supporters of Ivan D'Souza, another aspirant for the Congress ticket for the next elections, began shouting slogans and created further chaos.

The arguments snowballed into physical brawl and chaos in no time. When argument broke out between the two groups, Ashraf tried to pacify AICC member P V Mohan. However, Mohan pushed Ashraf physically which angered the latter, and immediately Ashraf assaulted P V Mohan. This led to chaos among both parties. Some members threw chairs at the Congress leaders. The brawl went on for at least 10 minutes, said eye witnesses.

Though the matter was resolved for a few minutes, a faux pas by the compere while mentioning minister's name created another storm.

Matters were finally resolved, and the formal ceremony took place wherein J R Lobo and other some others joined the party formally. However, the entire programme was marred by slogans from Ivan's group.

Though nobody admitted it, it was apparent that the clash was pre-planned.

J R Lobo, Ivan D'Souza and Ramanath Rai shared the dais during the formal programme, in the presence of mayor Gulzar Banu, party leader Moidin Bawa, and Congress youth leaders  Praveenchandra  Alva, Mithun Rai, and others.

Press Meet

Soon after the programme, a press meet was held by Ramanath Rai, J R Lobo and Ivan D'Souza.

Addressing reporters, Lobo said that the party representatives can carry out their work only if the party workers support them wholeheartedly. He said that he joined Congress because he was impressed by the party's work for the needy and underpreviliged, and added that he did not get any offer from any other party.

"I am not ashamed of being a party worker though I have held higher posts, the last being member secretary of regional and science centre, Pilikula," he said.

Ramanath Rai brushed aside the chaos and clash at the programme as 'minor' issue and said that it was normal in any party for differences to arise. He insisted that the party workers are united and that the party was strong and ready for the next elections.

Ivan D'Souza chose not to address the press meet, though he was present.

Welcome to any one who wants to join congress party. But there should be limit for expectations as and when u join party. You can not expect to get a seat or election ticket as u join. In this way Mr Ashraf was right in focusing that Mr J R Lobo should work for party for few years then expect any seat. As far as Mr Ivan is concerned he got many chances and he should not be given further chances. It is better to choose right and able candidates who can give fitting replies to BJP candidates. It is the arranged fight either by Mr Ashraf or Mr Ivan. If this continues young people will go away from congress. It is now itself not possible for young people to enter the congress party as heavy weight muscle power having people standing on doors of congress party office. Changing this is important than writing scripts for these kind of dramas.Mr Lobo also should be tested and then should be provided with responsibilities.

Watch the photos and video carefully. It is the group of 8 to 10 young boys acting as if they are hitting each other. In some other photos they are behaving like friends. This is a group of same group goondas or paid party workers arranged by either Ivan or Ashraf. Ivan making a big drama and trying to show as if he is passifying the crowd. This is a typical hindi film politician, he himself organising the mob and trying to take credit as if he helped to cool down the mob. Mr Lobo dont worry about such street goondas guided by Ivan, Ashraf etc. Keep your goals and aims much above these silly people. After all Ivan is not a original congressman. He is a reject mall from JDS to congress and you cant expect anything better from him.

In my assesment the names like Lobo, d'souza. Frank, etc, etc. are not political names, meant to win elections

If any minority leader has to win the elections they have to be like some film stars, change the name to suit the needs, be a Reddy, Gowda, Shetty, Appa....plenty of names to choose from.

Wow..super show . Ivan is desperate over the entry of J R Lobo into party. Congress high command should take disciplinary action against Ivan and his gang-mates, particularly Praveen Alva who looks very active in creating troubles there as in vedeo. Recently we have heard so many negative issues pertaining to Ashraf, Ex Mayor. He supporting Ivan gang itself is a big negative to him. Mangalore Bishop made a very big mistake by recommending Ivan last time for MLA ticket. I feel he would surely repent today after seeing this video.

Mr. Lobo is a class gentleman, very honest person. But politics is definitely is not suitable for his nature. It was much better for him to relax at this age and enjoy his family life. Even if he does'nt get the party ticket for election, he has the power to be victorious being a independent candidate too. But the corrupt political world will not allow him to enjoy his life peacefully.
Dear Mr. Lobo, my advise is if you wish to serve Mangaloreans being the party member well and good, but please don't accept the ticket for election, You will win undoubtedly, but people like Ivan harm you from behind.
Anyhow, Mr.Ivan has no right to demand for the ticket, since he is good for nothing in politics. He is good only for gathering a crowd, shout slogans, strike, hold the mike, flag etc. Don't compare Mr. Lobo with Ivan Dsouza. It is a big gap Mr. Ivan!!!

    ''FIGHT FOR TICKET''
PLEASE GIVE TICKET TO ANY OTHER CANDIDATE THAN GIVING TO IVAN D'SOUZA.
No use giving him nor he will win. There are good leaders in Congress who can win the election that giving ticket to a loosing candidate.

Ya youe right, there is a lot of discipline in BJP as they are always busy watching xxxx where they actually have to work and think about people who have voted for them...

If persons aspiring to work for the betterment of people think they are servants of the people and put nation before them, this type of situation would never arise. Some serious change/reformation is required in our Indian politics irrespective of party affiliations.

Mr. Ramesh please use Kannada instead of hindi for your comments. Its for all because if you continue this habit all Kannadigas will start dialogues in hindi which is harmful for our language Kannada!

KAnnada is a classical language of 2500 yrs history.Dont degrade kannada by putting it out of use.I have seen many mangaloreans especially using hindi on daiji which is very bad and I feel sad to say this.
Please Use kannada. Also hindi is not the national language of India-this is for everybody's information. Its only an official language other than english. Please boycott hindi here.Have some spirit for Kannada and Karnataka.

Look at tamilians ,telugus or malayalis they speak their own language wherever they go.Learn something from them.It wont do any good to me but for our mother tongue Kannada!Request all of you .Thank you.Regards

This is not a new thing within congress and i don't understand what Mr Louis, Kuwait wants to prove with his comments. Also our congi agents comments missing here. Might be waiting for some news about Nityananda swamy or BJP. BJP is atleast much better than congress as there is some discipline exist in that party.

After dismal performance of BJP in the state, it will be cake walk for congress in next election. Every one like to have congress ticket. This type of events not good for congress party. No discipline at low level in congress n high level at BJP.
