Mangalore, Jul 29: Around 50 Congress activists were rounded up by the Barke police even as they tried to defy prohibitory orders to hold a protest in front of MCC building here on Sunday July 29.

At around 4 pm, Youth Congress leaders Praveenchandra Alva, Mithun Rai, KPCC secretary Ivan D'Souza and Congress leader Bola Jagannath Shetty along with their party workers assembled near the MCC building to protest against the attack on boys and girls at a Padil resort on Saturday July 28.

However, as Section 144 is in place for three days, the police did not allow the Congress leaders to hold the protest.

They agreed to comply with the orders and temporarily called back the protest. They waited for sometime, and all of a sudden some of the Congress activists began to shout slogans.

The activists, defying the police orders, began to protest, and were soon rounded up by the police. All of them were detained.

Several students, including those belonging to NSUI and the general public joined the protest and were chased by the police.

The police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Inspectors Vinay Gaonkar, Subhashchandra and other 25 police personnel took charge of the situation.

It is surprising, protesting against Goondism, in a goondagiri manner. What a shame, this so called leaders of Congress don't have common sense to respect the law & order. Do they know the meaning of Section 144 ??. First learn to respect the law other wise what is the difference between you & others.

Anand, Mangalore nothing like that. Mangalore is still a safe and best place to live in. Where as your congress support media channels are making hue and cry of such incidents. It's reminds the one of the saying of kannada illi ooytu endare ulli oytu antara namma media davaru. So Dont create your own stories.

Jumbo circus and Karavali utsav is not there in mangalore now. Now a new type of circus by our secular party kangress members. See how the people are standing and watching this tamasha of kangress people near Saibeen complex mangalore. By the way we can see only the same old faces in kangress. No new faces at all. This clearly indicates the fate of kangress party.

    only 50?
Like people say - we, Mangaloreans are good at gossiping, and nothing else.
I am sure 60% of the Mangaloreans do not agree with what happened at the resort. It is nobody's business to intrude into a private property. Now the cops are playing cards of "Un-registered Resort", tomorrow all will forget.  The scar remains.  When will we learn to join together for our rights.
Why do we need hijra cops? Hijra Custom Officials and R**#E M**GA Ministers and leaders?

Why Ivan D'souza is smiling while 'protest' - when the things become so complicated. Did he received huge funds from abroad to do such things and to malign image of our nation. Beware of such people - before it's too late. All media is funded by western countries. We need changes. Good thing done by residents of Padil informing right people as Police Force cannot take any steps in this matter. It looks like now-a-days 'B'day Party' celebrate by ' S E X ' and not by ' B A L O O N S'/C A K E S/C A N D L E S'. Good Joke indeed.
