Mangalore, Jul 30: In reponse to the call given by the All College Students' Union, students across the city on Monday July 30 boycotted classes and rose in protest against the attack on boys and girls at a resort in Padil by a Hindu group on Saturday July 28.

At St Agnes College, hundreds of students gathered and shouted slogans. However, as Section 144 is still in place in the city, the police did not allow them to hold the protest.

Similarly, in Besant Women's College, the students tried to stage a protest, but were stopped by the police and had to return home.

In University College, Hampankatta too, police were deployed after students attempted to defy the prohibitory orders and stage protest.

City crime branch inspector Venkatesh Prasanna and other police officials are monitoring the situation.

Police commisioner Seemanth Kumar Singh along with his team is making rounds of the city to ensure peace and order.

St Aloysius College

In St Aloysius College, the protest was held at the College campus. In the wake of the city’s turmoil with regard to the recent horrific attacks, the students and staff of St Aloysius College held a protest at the college premises on July 30.

The protest was supported by  students and staff members which included the principal Fr Swebert D’Silva. Judy Pinto, coordinator was present.

The principal appealed to the youth as well as the activists to behave in a civil manner. He said that media has been irresponsible in handling the matter and hence had prooted the wrongdoing.

Rose Veera, HOD of political science reminded the gathering of Kamala Devi Chattapodhyaya and said that no one should invade any person’s private space, while Sarasvathi, HOD of Kannada said that the fight must be taken forward with unity.

Students of the college also had a fair share of their opinions and spoke out. Alister from final year commerce said that Mangalore has gained popularity for all the wrong reasons.

Akansha, another student, voiced out her anger saying that even when girls dress up in Indian clothes they can look as provocative as western outfits, while a girl wearing a short skirt if worn properly can also look decent.

Alwyn D’Sa from the department of English expressed his solidarity with the women of the city and the state.

Fr Francis Almeida advised the students to carry lathis and hockey sticks while attending parties. He also said that all the goons must be banned by the state. Following the agitations and protests, the state administration has clamped section 144 in the city as they fear and outbreak of chaos, he said.

Many other students vented their anger and spoke up, including Sheetal and Sumanth from  second year arts, Saksha from first year arts and Taha from second year commerce.

On behalf of the womens forum, Suman from final year commerce discussed the unnecessary moral policing that is rampant in the country and said that India is still not independent especially in such cases.

Donnet D’Souza pointed out that no legal complaint has been lodged against the activists yet.

    Dear Students,
Please do not be afraid to raise your voices against injustice done to your fellow brothers and sisters.
Mangalore was better off during 1960s and 1970s where all sorts of fashion was seen, it was next to Paris and London.
Students used to wear Mini Skirs, Medis, Maxis, Jeans, Bell Bottoms, etc.,
Mangalore has produced best of World Beauties, Mr. Worlds, Bollywood and Hollywood actors etc.
These goons are terrorising our student communities in the name of Indian culture, they themselves look like goondas and terrorists by their outfits.
Just come out in large numbers and get these anti social elements out of our Mangalore Towns.
Make mangalore very modern and a safe place for women and children.
Women should walk freely even during midnights, that much it should be safe enough.
Try to involve our Prime Minister, President, Chief Ministers, Home Ministers. Start writing them your letters and petitions.
We do not want Mangalore like Saudi Arabia or Afganistan/Taliban.
    Jai Hind.

I saw your comments and feel pity for you. It seems you need at least two births to grow up. For your evil eyes these students partying with their friends look like prostitution and you support these fanatic goons in the name of Hinduism who literally molest and beating girls. Shame on you and your way of culture. The way you comment & your views are more similar to Taliban ideology. You are fit to be born in Afghanistan or Peshawar hilly region to create your own progeny where your exact clones live.

What does it mean dress code!!!! is it dress code required for his/her room, breaking the door and entering some ones privacy and molesting/beating girls is it that Hindu culture/ Indian culture??? Touching girls it is equal to rape. If some one touches/molest/beat their (these goons') own sisters & mothers is it acceptable for them. OR those who supports these attackers/goons, if some one touches/molest/beat these supporters' sisters and mothers is it they will accept this.

    Dear Students,

This type of resort attacks only you and NGO can stop. I do not any of the Mangalore police or politicians can stop this. Because politicians will support these useless groups for the vote purpose and police men are behind power. If all students raise their voice together, then deffinately some positive result we can expect. Usually politicians are cowards, they will always support the street dogs (useless groups)for the vote purpose. I also request NGO come forward and take this matter to the central level. Karnataka state government already made as Taliban, we can not expect any justices from them. I highly appriciate Mr. Walter's efforts to reveal the resort truth.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THESE EDUCATED STUDENTS SUPPORTING FOR THIS RAVE PARTY AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITY?

This was not a Rave party. Nothing illegal was happening. You and your guy's were dreaming. Your guy's wanted to loot money, gold and modesty of girls...!!!!

JUST TURN THE PAGE AND JUST LOOK AT THE GIRLS,BOYS DRESS CODE DURING LAST RAVE PARTY. THEN COMMENT.

All were wearing dress. You need not define what others has to wear. It is their liking.

I HAVE SO MANY QUERIES TO SUPPORTERS :

IS THIS RIGHT ? WHICH CULTURE IS THIS? WHICH PARTY IS THIS? IS IT WORTH?

It is right indeed. Which culture you are following..??? It is worth to have parties and enjoy.

DO WE NEED TO MAINTAIN LIKE THIS PARTY? DO WE NEED TO SUPPORT FOR THIS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY?

Yes. We need to have parties and want to condemn the illegal ctivities like invading some one private life...!!???

DO WE NEE TO FOLLOW WESTERN LIFE STYLE AND ACTIVITY?

We do not need to follow your way of culture anyway. What is western culture ??? Are you wearing pant or langot..???

IS THIS SAFE? IS OUR PARENTS SUPPORTING FOR THIS? IS THIS SOMEONE PURPOSEFULLY MAKING FOR PUBLICITY?

My parents are supporting this.I am supporting my daughter being a parent..!!!??? It may not safe anymore in the presence of people like you. They will be taught a lesson.!!??

CAN ANYONE HAVE ANSWER FOR THIS??

I think you got the answers..!!!!??? Although you do not understand what I meant.

The system has deteriorated because of lack of desire to contain hooliganism by the local Administration. Had the parents of children filed the FIR in the earlier case (Amnesia) this situation would not have arisen. At least now they should collectively file the FIR against these vultures.

When the police are unable to protect the premises of hotels who are legally doing their business, its time, they start keeping pack of dogs on the premises to take care of them .

Wake up Youth! It is time to think about your political responsibility. Election is near the corner by 2013. Don’t miss the opportunity to cast your votes. Do you vote for someone who tell you what to eat, what to drink, what to wear and go where. Choice is yours

    Dear all Female students,

You are the future of this great nation where our forefathers & mothers fought for our nations freedom. Now your freedom is in grave danger wherein a female is hated in many northern states and the fetus is tampered/removed/destroyed/a female is thrown in the garbage due to which the female population is decreasing.

In the twin districts of Mangalore and Udupi our females had very good freedom and the female population is not as bad as other cities. Please and kindly make your life fruitful, happy without fear or dread or you be terrorized or succumbed to by any human. Be brave, loyal to your parents, study well, have a decent way of life at the same time face life. Have parties drink and dance at your choice and in limit not without limit. If you come across any animal kind of badly behaving human with you catch him beat him nicely, be conscious while beating, a human should not die. You have no authority to kill a human but only in self protection.

I appreciate your protests which should be and are peaceful without endangering or causing damage to private and public properties. I appreciate these protests where in the priests and nuns the college staff and students all have got together to address you in a peaceful way of protest which is a good and healthy democracy.

    May God bless you all.

I am indeed very happy to see a large number of students from many colleges rising in unison against resort attack. Thanks a lot for the initiative of the organizers. I am surprised and shocked to read the horrific and heart-rending experiences of the victims of the Morning Mist Home Stay incident. This incident is a matter of shame not only for Mangaloreans but to all. It really pains me to know about such barbaric incidents taking place in Mangalore, my birth place. Certainly the image of Mangalore has received a big blow. Now the time has come to get united irrespective of caste and creed in order to fight for banning all fundamentalist groups who involve in such type of incidents. Let us pray and hope for better tomorrow in Mangalore, a place I love, admire and appreciate. May God bless you.

Excuse me Mr Rakesh Shetty... These students arent supporting the rave party. and for your kind information it wasn't a rave party. and they havent done anything illegal.. people are getting education and everybody is craving for newness. so nobody has right to point out in anybodys dressing sense. Are you expecting girls to wear sarees or burka for any party.. each occassion has its own value. so during party u need to wear partyware and during entering holy place we need to wear modest dress..

and nobody has a right to enter any public party and ruin it. if they are against let them report higher authority, nobody has right to touch anybodys body.
and it was not a rave party it was a bday party.just imagine sombody enters your party ans harrasses your sister.?? so you mean to say we cannot celebrate our bday along with our frnz.... you are totally wrong Mr. Rakesh. wake up its 21st century..

It wasnt a rave party in the first place. it was a boy celebrating his bday party at a homestay with his friends who were buddies since 5yrs. no one has the right to invade anyone else's privacy. And dress code for a party of such kind is normal. Where does dress sense go during new years eve where every person is dressed up in such a manner.
