Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (PS)

Update: Monday, July 31

Mangalore, Jul 30: The police on Monday July 30 arrested four more persons in connection with the attack on boys and girls at Morning Mist Home Stay resort on Saturday July 28.

The arrested are Shailesh from Jelligudde, Harish and Chethan from Padil and Sunil from Thokkottu. All are said to be members of Hindu Janjagrana Vedike.

With this, the total number of arrests in the case has climbed to 12. Eight of them - Rajesh, Taranath, Subhash Padil, Ganesh, Sharath, Venugopal, Sandeep Shetty and Taranath - were arrested soon after the incident.

All of them have been remanded in judicial custody till August 13.

The video clip of the attack was thoroughly investigated and the attackers visible in the clip are said to be arrested, police said.

Sources said that there were 15 other people involved in the attack, and though their faces are not visible in the clip, information will be collected from the arrested and they will be held soon.

Police sources said that some of the culprits involved in the incident were part of the 2009 pub attack. The activists also broke glasses in the home stay and took away Rs 10,000, a gold chain and mobile phones from the students.

Attempt to rape, loot, forcible entry, destroying property and various other charges have been filed against the arrested. As many as 200 additional police personnel have been deployed in the city, said higher officials.

They were tracked and arrested by the city crime branch personnel led by inspector Venkatesh Prasanna.

On July 28, the activists broke into the resort where 13 youngsters were celebrating a birthday party and assaulted boys and girls. The issue has snowballed into a ranging debate, with students and public going on protests and political parties condemning the attack. However, the convener of HJV denied that his group was involved in the attack, and chose to shift the blame on Padil residents.

Sources said that the MCC has issued a notice to the owner of Morning Mist Home Stay where the incident took place, for not complying with rules and non-payment of commercial tax.

Judicial Custody???? What about investigations??? Who is going to check phone records between these outlaws, local police station officers, media and the hotel owner. This itself shows the political pressure brought upon the legal system....

    Dear All,
Just spare a thought it could have been you, your wife and family members celebrating a birthday at your home and these goondas without explanation enter and attack your wife, family members and molest the women. It will send shivers down our spine. Lets not forget it could have been us.

BJP owes an explanation for all this and as Capt. Cornelio rightly pointed out, why has the women wing of BJP not condemned this episode? Does it mean they silently support this heinous crime?

Yesterday, convener of HJV Jagadish Karanth said it is not hand of HJV, what he has to say today?? Police must break the legs of these criminals before producing them to the court. Arrest the masterminds and officials of this Taliban HJV also.

Good work by the police this time, the culprits have been caught. I do hope they are given severe punishment and not let out once the matter dies down. I do not think any such incident took place when DVS was in power. If the Police/govt is strict none of these outfits will be encouraged to do moral policing in Mangalore. Just as the BJP govt is very strict against moral policing in Goa I do hope the karnataka govt will also do the same.
