Mangalore: Home Stay Attack - TV Scribe Denies Prior Info, says he Called Police

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jul 31 : Even as hunt goes on for the remaining accused who inhumanely attacked young boys and girls at a birthday party at Morning Mist Home Stay resort in Padil, police have pointed fingers on TV cameramen who reached the spot much before police could get the information on the incident.

On Saturday July 29, police filed an FIR against two TV cameramen who were at the spot while the attack on boys and girls was on.

Naveen Soorinje, journalist with a Kannada satellite channel (Kasturi News 24 x 7) who is one of the accused, spoke to daijiworld and said, "It is ridiculous to see such charges framed against me. I did my duty of calling a police officer, but what can I do if he did not pick the call?" he retaliated.

Naveen said that as soon he heard the news of the attack, he first called Mangalore rural circle inspector Raveesh Naik (Mob : 9480805330), but he did not respond to the call. "Then I asked TV9 cameraman to call the police, and he too did the same thing, and got the same result."

"A resident of Padil who I know informed me over the phone that a group of 30 people were passing by, and as their intention was not clear, he sensed some attack might happen, as the Morning Mist home stay is close by," he said. Responding to the phone call, he immediately left for the place along with the cameraman, he said.

"Without getting into the details, it was not appropriate to call the police as the intentions of the men may have been different. I did not want to call police for the wrong reasons," he said.

"But just when we reached there, we saw some men attacking the boys and the girls. I asked the cameraman to shoot, and begged the attackers not to hit the youngsters, but their number was more and they did not pay heed to my pleas."

"What surprised me was that the police reached the spot within 15 minutes, but no immediate action was taken. They were talking to attackers in such a friendly manner, as if police themselves had advance information !" said Naveen.

"Later I came to know that the attackers were under the impression that boys belonging to one community were enjoying with girls of another community, and that's the reason they wanted to attack. But in the end, their impression was proved wrong."

He claims that the attackers were under the influence of alcohol. There were hardly 4 to 5 journalists, and all of them tried to stop the attack.

"I have done my duty as a journalist, within the scope of the law and ethics of journalism. My question is why did the police let the attackers go free at the time of the incident? Why didn't they arrest them immediately ? If they were to catch a chain snatcher on the road, will they let him go or arrest him immediately ?" he questions.

"What I saw before my eyes that day was barbaric, and sad. I could not help them, but I tried my best. Because of my efforts, the issue is attracting national attention, and there's hope that the culprits will be punished severely. If there was no video, how would people have believed that such an incident had taken place? I would be happy if this issue helps us to stop such kind of incidents in the future," he says.

Note from Daijworld : We have been accused by some of the readers that we shot the video of the incident live, and that we had prior information of the attack.

We would like to clarify that the video published by us was bought from a third party. Though initially a raw version of the video was uploaded, upon request from some readers, we edited the video to blur the faces of the victims. Our intention was to show to the world how cruelly some people behave in the name of culture. Having watched our video, a human rights organization contacted us, and we are providing the raw video to the authorities concerned at the national as well international levels.

Neither did we have advance information, nor had anything to do with this incident.

Even in the 2009 pub attack, we faced a similar situation as our video was referred to by TV channels worldwide, and the administration accused us of having prior information. But later it was proved wrong.

Its not strange to see this! Always it happens only in India!Person who tries to show case the situation is in trouble , instead of blaming the TV cameraman, let me ask the police how many of the goons show cased in the camera are caught. Now the person has provided the proof of slapping girls and guys there, So now let the police answer how many are caught among the 30?? then list out the TV ppl. When there are proofs ,nationwide ppl watching still police is dreaming on plans? So anybody anywhere can get into anybody's bedroom and hit him if he is with his wife also without even asking...this will happen in future situation! Then u will find only goons in this country because rest of ppl who need peace will move out from here. People earn to live peacefully not piecefulllly!!

It's very strange to see how people try to put the blame on others. Even the police is hiding from their mistakes. Police din't answer the call n now they are blaming that they were not being informed.
It's now or never. The common people along with media can make our nation clean. We need unity among ourselves and get all the corruptions sorted out at the earliest.

Home stay attack is the sadest thing to happen to Mangalore in recent times. From this one could imagine the sick mentality of these goons and the atrocities or barbaric they would commit in any communal violence. Clearly this is greatest threat to democracy of this great Nation. But the most dangerous of all these incident is the behavior of the police, in spite of committing horrific scenes infront of millions of viewers across the India and the world these goons are not treated in a way they deserve it. The double standard of police is the most dangerous and barbaric than the behaviour of these goons.

Its ridiculous, even in developed countries like India we do not have emergency no. to call cops. Is it Raveesh Naik is James Bond-007? In India, govt.never provide advanced technology to the Police force. No good salary, no proper shelter, no proper training to the police. Its not the mistake of police or the journalist. It is total failure of our system.

Government should ban HVJ immediately. No one has gained anything from this HVJ. They have not done any good work other than creating conflict between religions. Today whatever happened to those youths should not happened to anyone in future also. All the youths whether he is a Hindu, Muslim or Christian should come together and fight for the justice and stress the Government to ban HVJ. Culprits are arrested today, but with high influence of HVJ, definitely they will come out and will start threatening the media , parents of those youths etc.

Now the question is what will the be future of those girls who are molested? Without doing any mistakes, they got molested by HVJ. How they can face this society. Police department is fully controlled by HVJ. In future, how we and our children can mingle with other cast and religion people and live peacefully in Mangalore. Who are these HVJ to stop us to go with any religion people? R we slaves of HVJ to live according to their wish.First we are Indian, then we are HIndu, Muslim and Christians. Heard those attackers were under the influence of alcohol and police were talking to them friendly, as if these people did their job smoothly.

I saw in the picture, many ladies were gathered outside the guest house after attack. Where were these ladies, when attack was going on? Why they were silent. It is our Indian culture my dear brothers and sister. Really feeling sad for those youths. Is it possible to get peaceful Mangalore back? Very Very doubtful, unless we fight for the justice with one voice.

Although it appears that the cameraman had prior info about the attack, it helped to identify the goons. What shouldnt have happened has already happened. So let the police "serve" the goons rather than blaming the media person that they did not give prior info. With the evidence they have provided, take necessary action. By the way, if it was not a tie-up between the media and HJV, it wouldnt be a difficult task for the 30 odd goons to make the 3-4 cameramans shut their cameras.

Come on people of Mangalore, its again the same. Police and Law Systems are like toothless Tiger. I'm very sure that no stern actions will be taken against these culprits!!! They will be behind the bars for few days and will be released due to weak Law Loopholes and after sometime again such incidents will happen. The last pub attack is the classic example.
At the end of the day, the image of Mangalore is tarnished badly. Attack on Girls, Communal Riots, social imbalances are the main reasons for which great companies dont consider Mangalore as the domain eventhough Mangalore has better potential and caliber in terms of education, intellectuals and professionals as compared to the other metro places.
People of Mangalore, lets wake up before it's too late !!! Let's fight together to eliminate the evil elements of the society. Let's work towards our current and future Mangalore Generation & Development.

Noticed clearly the friendly action of the police men towards the blood suckers. Even after the police presence the boys and girls were not protected. Catch those policemen and find out how much Hafta they rec'd from gang leaders. If there was no video the incident wd have been small. Thank God there is proof. It will remain as nightmare for the girls throughtout their life. Grill all those goondas and the truth will be out. Put this case to fast track courts and finish the case with 2 months. Are the stucents really to be blamed? In a way they have been inspired to do such things by some of our great MLA's, Actors, Cinemas, and some great personalaties. Why are these children being exposed and harrassed so badly? Why wasn't the issue of the fake baba Swami Nithyanand taken seriously. In such a case that culprit should have been punished severly and taken it as a big issue. But people support such instances. And the mob creating these problems are they "Doodh Ke Dhoole Hoye". If some Ministers, Filmstars, or any other great personalities son or daughter went out for late night parties, freking out would the mob do such a thing? NO, Its quite clear coz their mouths would be shut by huge bundles of crispy notes. Thats what our system is, today. If its possible, let these oppositions first drag down those great personalities who are given the lease to do anything they wish to. And them the common man. I truely believe Human Rights Organisation will surely do somthing considering peolpe of every stage and society.

The media has done a very good job. The police should actually thank the media for their support for making their job easier. if not for them nobody would have known of the incident, especially the attackers are caught red handed and no other proof is required. Shame on the police for talking politely with the attackers and not dragging them to the police station immediately. This shows the intention of the police and now unnecessarily blaming the media trying to discourage them. There is no other proof required than these visuals to put the attackers behind bar and punish them severely. Looks like the police and the attackers are hand in glove and now only because the news has spread all over the world they have caught the culprits and am sure after some days they will leave them free.

First of all I want to condemn this entire immoral program or party, which is illegal and immoral. But The Police department may know this happening incident in advance. Because there are many police have the close contact with these bajrangees of so called moral police dogs. So that should charge-sheet and enquiry such a police but not a sincere media person. This is very shame to the government for these police targeting the media person who is disclosed the incident. This is shows that police involvement with these bajrangees. So that only they (police) allowed sufficient time to bajrangees for enjoying with these girls in the name of attacking... shame to this goondaraj... culture. This is not moral spirit but there is only the spirit of Alcohol and sexually interest of enjoying in the name of attacking… (In the picture we can see that the attacking youth touching and holding in the sexual parts of the girls.) So that, we should know, ‘their intention is not moral, only immoral enjoyment in such a way.’ More over these criminals have the confidence of escaping from the punishment because of the BJP government.
bjp leaders condemning the incident, the police reaching even after the media person they were not ready to lift the call from the media person these all only the drama of their preplanned program and after all charging the innocent media person SHAME…big shame if it is continue then we are not required police department in Karnataka, only this Goondas can control it let them enjoy!

My question to all the journalist/ Cameramen...
You speak about your Job, Tell me honestly, If your sister was a part of this party and getting molested, would you uploaded this shooting in your TV channels? you would have handled it in much matured way than being so rude and unhuman. May be no one would have known the identity of these girls and they might have forgotten this incident after a week or so, but now every media, FB, youtube u see, you can see the visuals live, and it might have a serious effect on these girls..

SOME WHERE YOU NEED TO KNOW YOUR JOB BETTER THAN to increase a TRP of your Channels.. Let me remind you a real life Story, Mr. Kevin carter who won Pulitzer award for taking a heart breaking photo of a child who was starving for food, went on committed suicide after realizing his duty was not to focus on award winning photographs but to help that child who was in need of food..

Atleast he learnt his mistakes after 2 years.. But our media personal never seems to be learning lesson... I again say in BOLD LETTERS, this Act of molestation need to be Condemned and Protested. But on the other hand " DIKKARA" for all those cameraman, photographers, media persons who published this video in their Tv channels without hiding the identity of victims to get higher TRP..

Mr. Naveen you've done a great job... it is so shameful to tell that our public protection is so weak. i wish there would have been some brave officer who'd teach these attackers a good lesson. but sadly i feel there aren't any. it is so pitiful to say that because of few corrupt policemen the name of the whole police department is put to shame. if the higher authority doesn't take any action I am sure people will lose their faith from the public protectors. its my humble request to all the officers from public protection department to take strict action, and punish those attackers so that next time any group of people planning to do something reckless will think 100 times. I donot want any1 to lose their faith from the police dept. You guys are meant to help us when we are in need. Please punish the accused and gain your respect back from the public..

Such pitiful acts are keeping our country from developing. If such things continue i don't think our country will develop.
It might be fun to carry out such acts, but none sees the consequence behind it. People across the world our laughing at our condition.
India which was known for values, peace loving. is now known for such acts. The main cause is education, if they were well educated i don't think something such'd happen. It so shameful to see young boys and girls get punished for just celebrating the day of their birth.People please rise up, educate yourself and move on with the changes in society.
lastly i can say Lets live in peace and also let others to live in peace.

    Dear Readers,

It is evident that the Police have not taken any action once they were at the venue of attack. Look at the third picture, all the goons are just behind the police as if they are shielded by the police (their protector). The goons were in the compound and still the police did not take any action to arrest them, instead they started interrogating the boys and girls..Strange isn't it???

It is not new. This is he way police act. To cover their own mistakes they find scapegoats...??? Even if the video is there unable to find the criminals...!!!??? This is sad side of the story...!!!??? Why they took victims to the custody...instead of taking criminals to the custody..!!!?????And so far tey could catch only 12 out of 100 numbers....!!!???? This explains their intentions...Now they may twist the video and present to the court so that all the culprits can escape easily...!!!???

Because of these currupted politicians we have to face all these situations, by the vedio we can see what the polices are doing, they are friendly with the goons, they are appointed only for the ministers and these type of organisation, because of these video really we came to know how safe our Mangalore is. It is filled with "the most uncivilized ministers and police," It is not at all safety for the innocent people.

    Mr. Politician,
Dear A—H please answer the following questions to the Indian citizens about their fundamental right as per the Indian constitution which was written by Dr. Ambedkar and was never taught to people in their primary schooling?
    1. Does the law of the land discriminate between Female and Male?
    2. Does the Law protect or gives priority to one religion over another?
    3. Does the law define the citizen’s dress code?
    4. Does the law say politician to serve only their party not the citizens who elect them?
    5. Does the law say public servants are there to protect the politicians and not the public?
One more last question, if the citizen of India does not believe in any politicians of any parties. can they boycott the election? If the boycotted percentage of citizens is more than 50% of the eligible voters, will the election be considered legit? (This will not represent majority of the citizen).

Please do your job for what you are paid for.
