Mangalore: ABVP Stages Massive Protest, Demands Ban on PFI, CFI

Mangalore, Aug 3: The members of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) along with students of several colleges staged a massive protest here on Friday August 3.

They demanded ban on organizations like PFI, KFD and CFI which they claimed have been fostering hatred in the state with their communal and fundamentalist agendas.

The protestors took a procession from Ambedkar Circle at Balmatta to deputy commissioner's office, where they staged their protest.

Addressing the gathering, ABVP state secretary Ramesh K said that organizations like PFI, KFD and CFI are implementing their agendas through colleges. They are root cause for drug mafia, 'love jihad' and other problems plaguing the college campuses in the state, he said.

The Kerala high court has already banned CFI and KFD, he said, and demanded a similar ban in Karnataka too.

The protestors claimed that such organizations are provoking the youth from the minority community to become fundamentalists like them, by raising issues like headscarf for girl students in colleges, and misleading them into illegal activities.

"These organizations have created an atmosphere of hate and fear," Ramesh said.

Students from Narayanguru College, University College, Gokarnanatha College, Ramakrsihna PU and Degree College, Ganapathy College, Padavu College, and Sharada Vidyalaya College took part in the protest.

Pavitra of Univ College, Pranjal and Ullas of Ramakrishna College and hundreds of other students along with ABVP members were present.

Similar protests were staged in Puttur and other places.
