Jaago Mangalore Urges Citizens to Join Mass Movt Against Assault on Civil Liberties

Media Release

Mangalore, Aug 10: Jaago Mangalore Association in cooperation with various other voluntary bodies is organizing a mass protest against last week’s atrocious attack on college students at Padil on Thursday, August 16. The protest march will be taken out at 4:00 pm from Jyothi Circle to Town Hall in the city, where a meeting will be addressed by eminent citizens.

“The unprovoked attack on teenage boys and girls at Padil is a deplorable blot on our democratic values which are enshrined in our Constitution,” says Vijaynath Shetty, the chief co-ordinator of Jaago Mangalore Association. “This outrageous trend of forcibly and illegally thrusting their bigoted opinions on hapless citizens in the name of ‘culture’ would not have happened if the anti-social elements behind the earlier attacks were not encouraged by the silence of the majority. It is high time we called the bluff and put an end to this repeated charade.”

Jaago Mangalore Association urges all conscientious citizens to participate in this protest march in large numbers and express their disapproval of such criminal activity. Protestors are further requested to wear Gandhi cap, black band and carry a torch to signify this peaceful protest.

It may be recalled that Jaago Mangalore Association had earlier given a call to the authorities to give satisfactory progress on the case and assure strict action against the culprits by August 15, Independence Day.

The organisation commends the police on their success in promptly arresting 22 accused individuals, but the recent unintelligible statements, followed by an equally shocking report submitted by the Karnataka State Women's Commission Chairperson Manjula effectively indicting the victims and absolving the culprits raises serious doubts about the future course of the case.

“It is unfathomable what logic was used or what method of investigation was employed by the Karnataka State Women's Commission in arriving at such a preposterous conclusion. Apart from completely deviating from their terms of reference regarding the enquiry, the commission’s lop sided conclusions have given rise to speculation about its motives and we appeal to the state government to maintain an impartial view and not be swayed by any such extreme influences.”

More details about the protest meet will be announced soon.

I whole heartedly appreciate your efforts. I, being Hindu, condemn these Hindu terrorists, spreading fear among the Mangaloreans. To-day they are targetting boys and girls. Tomorrow they would destroy Kahjuraho, ajanta Ellora , Konarak and many Hindu temples where scantly dressed ladies are carved in the rocks. They would burn epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata and other literature just because there many stances glorifying the ladies and Goddesses bodies. But they would not burn the novels of Mr. Byrappa where he has glorified the sexual acts of his characters! Because Byrappa is a staunch Hindu and his all books speak ill of Muslims and invaders.

If we tolerate these hooligans there would be utter chaos and blood bath in future. Jago, Mangalore Jago.

The issue here is not of western culture nor mangalorean culture. It is for the atrocities made to the youngsters. The initial enquiry has been done on that night itself, so the police know what is the real story, its enquiry will take its course. Do we not have our basic constitution rights ? So it is right time for protesting and keeping the case alive.

I hope one of these days that HJV catches you and gives you good hiding for no fault of yours.
May be then you will understand why all other people of DK are worried abt these goonda vedikes including that idiot Manjula.
You did not comment anything when some BJP leaders including a woman BJP leader were caught recently in Mangalore what was mentioned as prostitution racket and somehow the woman BJP leader was let off.
Is that fair on that "culture" you are all backing? I did not see any comment from any of the "so called" culture stalwarts here

First of all congratulations to the organizers of Jago Mangalore.
The need of the hour is an organisation like this to get all like minded people under one umbrella.
On the other hand, Every School and College students have to join this protest march with their respective school uniforms.
All other citizens have to come in their uniforms like Nurses, Doctors, Lawyers, Business suits and in their respective business attires and show solidarity towards students and younger generation.
No anti social elements should dictate terms to the students and younger generations.
All girls and women should be allowed to walk free in Mangalore Town areas with whatever dresses they like to wear as per their personal choices.
    Jai Hind.

As all can't reach Mangalore, at every taluk center, a protest can be planned, so locals will participate in larger number. not this time alone, everytime, when we plan protest, we must organize it at multiple locations, so protest is registered, not the huge number at one place.

The same type of statement as Manjula gave were also issued by commissions sent for the pub attack, church attack and for any future attacks. The police will keep threatening the innocent victims. The BJP govt/police have always supported the terrorists who attack the innocent people! So more and more attacks are expected to take place in future on the innocent in Mangalore unless and until we fight unitedly. Its strange that no attack took place when BJP leaders were caught in prostitution racket, watching porn videos!!
