Rahul Gandhi alleges MP polls were rigged; Kamal Nath urges vigilance in voter roll verification

Bhopal, Jul 22: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath found support from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who on Tuesday alleged that the 2023 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were manipulated, echoing Nath’s long-standing claims.

In response, Nath called on Congress workers to remain alert during the ongoing voter list verification process and ensure that no fake voters are added nor genuine names removed. “Everyone worked hard, but due to vote manipulation, we couldn't win. Rahul Gandhi has acknowledged this,” Nath said in a post on X.

Rahul Gandhi made the remark during a virtual address to a two-day training camp for Congress MLAs in Mandu (Dhar district), which concluded Tuesday. In a video clip shared by the Madhya Pradesh Congress, Gandhi claimed the 2023 state elections were rigged similarly to events in Maharashtra.

The Congress had suffered a major setback in the 2023 polls, winning only 63 out of 230 seats, leading to Nath's resignation as state party chief. He was criticised for taking unilateral decisions during the candidate selection process, while two AICC in-charges were replaced within two months of their appointment.

Gandhi also warned of fresh attempts to manipulate electoral rolls ahead of future elections. “There is a plan to tamper with the voter list again. Elections could be stolen in Madhya Pradesh just like in Maharashtra,” he cautioned, urging party workers to prepare for a fight.

The training camp aimed to boost coordination between Congress MLAs and party functionaries, with a focus on strategic planning and vigilance ahead of upcoming political battles.
