Udupi, Aug 12: 'Katahapoopa (Kattadappa) Seve', offered every year during Shravana month, was held at Padubidri Mahalingeshwara Mahaganapathi temple on Saturday August 11.

The ceremony is held on the last Saturday of Shravana month and a sweet made of rice called 'Kattadappa' is distributed to the devotees as 'Prasadam'.

It is believed that Padubidri farmers, after offering Kattadappa Seve to Mahaganapati temple, could construct a small barrier on Kamini river for irrigation purpose. From that day on, the ritual of Kattadappa Seve is performed every year.

In the initial years, the Seve started by preparing appa from 10 'mudis' of rice. This year it was made from 70 mudis of rice.

To prepare the appa, as many as 100 cooks join their hands, out of whom around 40 work in north direction and another 40 towards the south. The preparation of appa is done from 4 am to 7 pm.

As many as 70 mudis of rice, 70 jaggery bags, 70 boxes of oil weighing 15 kgs each, 1600 coconuts, 2000 banana’s are used in the preparation.

A large number of devotees flocked the temple and in return they were offered Kattadappa as Prasadam.

Only you will find 'prasadham' is offered to devotees in way of 'breakfast meal' during morning and at afternoon a 'full meal' at after noon and night..in mostly many of temples around India..Good gesture from Temple authorities and well-wishers..At childhood while at home prepare 'appa' we use to tell..eenchana..eedala appa...!! Now it's rare to find we are ought to have it..Time changes..likewise thinking..Jai Ho...
