Udupi, Aug 12: A meeting was convened by district incharge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary at the DC's office here on Saturday August 11 to assess the rain situation in the district.

In the wake of the existing situation in Udupi, he strictly ordered the government officials to be present in the headquarters and make themselves available to handle any situation. "Keep your mobile phones switched on 24 hours and attend all the calls without fail, keeping your duty above your personal life," he said addressing the officials.

The DC also reiterated the same and added that areas hit by sea erosion and heavy rainfall have been provided with country boats and payment for the same will be done at the earliest.

He said,"The rains in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are a welcome relief, as we were waiting for a month. But unfortunately, the rain has caused natural calamities at many places."

He requested the people living in flood-hit areas to vacate their houses and make use of government facilities till the water level reduces.

Agricultural losses reported are not much, but roads in almost all areas have been badly damaged, he said.

It was also decided that a sum of Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore will be used to rebuild the damaged roads and provide alternate solutions where transport has come to a halt completely.

Loss of life was another major issue. Till date, the rains have claimed four lives in Hattiangady and two in Bailoor. A compensation of 1.5 lac has been handed over to the families of the deceased.

"Fire brigade, police and volunteers should give their maximum to the rescue efforts in the rain-affected areas," the DC urged.

He reviewed the situation with Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala tahsildars, the zilla panchayat, MESCOM, CMC and PWD officials and appealed them to provide maximum support to the people of the district.

The MLAs appealed to the minister to request for funds from the state government. The minister said that an estimated amount of Rs 10 crore is required for undertaking temporary measures.

"All the MLAs will personally meet the CM and get the work done at the earliest," he assured.

To get the rain 17 crore, every life lost 1.5 lacs, in advanced countries Kota Srinivas would have dragged to court on murder case, as he officially spent 17 crore for the rain and the disaster is his responsibility. God Bless India from these un educated leaders.

The initiatives taken by Kota Srinivas Poojary are welcome and hope he will have a support system to do the follow-up. More than financial assistance, certain immediate necessities like food, clothing, alternative shelter, medical help etc., should be in place so as to take care of the rain affected and displaced people.

We have seen many "Aarambha Shooras" coming and going in the past who just give big talks and out of the sanctioned State funds (after pocketing their share) will help only their nearest and dearest. Funds will not reach all the genuinely affected people. As the rain water recedes, these politicians also wash their hands off. Then the poor farmers will have to run from post to pillar. Hope this situation doesnot arise. Otherwise all the very best to you Mr. KSP.

Mr. Poojari, your concern over rain is appreciated.
Also talk something about attack on Padil resort few days back. You are representing this district & it is your responsibility to say something in favor or against this incident.
    Rain will come & go...

Good work to start with, need to see the follow-up though. Rs. 1.5 lacs is too small for the life lost since some of them may be the sole bread winners for the family and the reasons for death is someway to do with the infrastructure related shortcomings.

    Mr. Poojary,

Now spend another 17 Crores for the poojas to stop the rain. It is not yours or BJP's Money, but it is paid by every Kannadigas in terms of Taxes or in terms of offerings to the god from their hard earned daily bread.

Hats off to our anna bond Kota Srinavas poojary for speeding up relief works and getting the things on fast track. We need such a proactive leader in our district and state.

We are having good in-charge ministers for Udupi from last 4 years. Before that Congis were waste and useless.

GOOD MOVE BY THE MINISTER AND ALSO THE DEMANDS.
AS of now i spoke to my brother and he said last three days they didnot go out of kudru, not even the school children.
Govt says that they are on full alert but till today we didnot get any support fm any dept.
ONLY demands for more funds but as far as i know in our village till today (counting arnd last 20 years)hardly any one got any assistance fm any GOVT dept.
Our people till now suffering, many MLA'S CAME AND GONE AND PROMISED THAT THEY WILL BUILD A BRIDGE FOR US AND I AM LISTENING THIS LAST SO MANY YEARS BUT TILL TODAY NO A SINGLE STONE IS BEEN SANCTIONED. WE OUR SELVES MADE THE ROAD FM HIGHWAY TO RIVER SIDE ARND 10 YEARS BACK.
ALL ARE BUSY WHEN WE TRY TO MEET THEM WITH OUR DIFFCULTIES.
