Mangalore, Aug 13: The district Congress on Monday August 13 staged a protest condemning the report on the recent home stay incident submitted by state Women's Commission chief C Manjula.

The protest began by offering a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the MCC building at Lalbagh.

A copy of the Women's Commission report was burnt on the occasion. The Congress leaders and workers then marched to the DC's office where they held a protest meet.

Addressing the protestors, state Congress women's president Manjula Naidu launched a tirade against the ruling BJP and said that the state government has been harassing people in the name of development. "BJP has been promising change now and again, but has not done anything to date," she said.

"The idea of moral policing was introduced by Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik, and its roots are now getting strengthened in the city. There is a need to nip moral policing in the bud and root it out," she said.

"If the state government really respects women, it should dismiss the report submitted by the politically-influenced Women's Commission chairperson Manjula," she demanded.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, who was also present, said that it has been BJP's tried and tested strategy to misguide the people by raising communally sensitive issues  whenever elections approach. "BJP is being oversmart, and in the process doing injustice to the people," he added.

MLA Ramanath Rai and Vinaykumar Sorake also condemned the Women's Commission report on the incident.

Mayor Gulzar Banu, KPCC secretary Ivan D'Souza, J R Lobo, Praveenchandra Alva, Mithun Rai, and many other Congress leaders and workers were present.

This looks like a ‘weight loss ‘walkathon by a bunch of couch potatoes. We have more burning issues at hand. I just saw in another daily online, 2 pics of guys desecrating the Amar jawan memorial. This is like sticking at the heart of countries pride, why are these jokers out there not saying a word of condemnation, were is their patriotism gone. Why is not this issue addressed?
Apparently they are more worried about a group of boys and girls being disrupted of booze party & consensual sex in a remote home stay.

These is not photograph of protestors, but of bunch of jokers, who try to fool public. Do these people mean to say they support the nature of activity in homestay ? do they mean to say they support pub culture on one hand & pub parties on other hand ? Arent they fooling public in the name of Gandhiji's principal ? Gandhi was against liquour culture, & these jokers speak in support of them ! ! So do our Mayor support this culuture of students having liquor party as she has been in protest against enquiry commission ? Being a Mayor, she is speaking in favour of a person who has run homestay without valid licence
True face of our local congressis unveiled.

Here many commentators side line the important issue, and play politics blaming Congress. Of course Congress is bad, but BJP is worse. With all the talk of anti corruption, die hard BJP supporters are blind to the fact that for the past one year, lokayukta post is vacant and give all excuses. In a democracy, people should guard their interests first and call a wrong as wrong rather than supporting any party blindly, or else they will unknowingly hurt themselves.

When someone does something good for the society, please have the courtesy to appreciate. It is easy to sit and talk and do nothing. So, when the Congress has taken a step, support and give up the shameful attitude. Only then will there be no more girl whacking and thugs winning!!!!

A good and peaceful move, to show solidarity, yes indeed, united we stand, a change will come only when people know and understand their rights and exercise them. We hope that the shameful incident in Padil will lead to the enlightenment of people and bring a new level of harmony in the city. It is becoming a forum for free expression of thoughts from many sections of the society and reflects the determinations of the citizens to stop the evil elements and their aspirations for peace in the city of Mangalore.

BJP is an anti social government. You are one of the supporter of that government. Don't you see what is happening in the entire middle east, people are fighting for freedom, they are sacrificing their life, nobody wants dictatorship. Freedom is the fundamental right of every citizen, Lokamanya Tilak said freedom is my birth right and I shall have it. Mahatma Gandhi fought for freedom and Naturam Godse killed him. Gandhi followed Jesus Christ and preferred Non-violence for independence.

It is great to see the unity among Mangloreans who comprise of Hindus, Christians,Muslims, jains etc.fighting against hooligans and narrow minded desperate hoodlums who try to cause communal discord. There is a popular saying"United we stand, divided we fall" it holds true in this incident. If we have this unity, no lowlife would dare to repeat such atrocious behavior ever.Manglore is known for it's beautiful diversity in culture and it's scenic beauty,& Manglorean's are known as peace loving gentle people. Now Manglorean's should be known for their unity, irrespective of people belonging to different castes and religons.
