Mangalore, Aug 14:
In a tragic incident, a 12-year old girl playing on a swing got entangled in its ropes and died of asphyxiation near Kanaka temple at Gandhi Maidan here on Sunday August 12 evening.

The girl has been identified as Laxmi, daughter of Ramanna, a vegetable vendor.

Sources said Laxmi had made the swing on her own using some ropes. Between 4 pm and 5 pm she accidentally knotted herself while playing on the swing and was strangled to death.

At the time of the incident, Ramanna was away at Central Market selling vegetables, and Laxmi was alone at home. The incident came to light only after Ramanna reached home in the evening.

The family, hailing from Gadag district, came to Mangalore two months ago.
