Mangalore, Aug 15: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, Nagori division celebrated the 'Akand Bharat Sankalp Day'  in Pumpwell on Tuesday August 14 night.

The main speaker of the programme, Keshava Hegde, said that Bajrang Dal which is a unit of VHP has been doing many social service works like holding blood donation camps, serving the poor and so on.

"Bajrang Dal is not a group of anti-social elements or jobless people... we are only a group of people who have taken an oath to protect our nation," he proclaimed.

"After independence in 1947, the strong anti-social elements in the country were divided into three parts. Today, we pledge to make this nation one and united, unlike the old India. It is our duty to protect the nation and that is the main aim of celebrating this day. There are many leaders in our history who sacrificed their lives to protect the nation, but in modern-day politics, that spirit which our leaders had is vanishing, so it is our duty to bring back the same old spirit and fight for our nation," he said.

The celebration commenced with a procession from Garodi temple to Pumpwell maidan. Nearly 300 youths took part in the procession, holding fire sticks in their hands. Fire play and nasik band sets added colour to the procession.

The procession passed through the Pumpwell circle and ended in the Pumpwell maidan. 'Bhagawa Dhwaj' (safffron flag) was also hoisted in the beginning by the present dignitaires.

Leaders like Sharan Pumpwell and M B Puranik also spoke on the occasion. Dayanand Vittla compered the programme.

VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders like Keshava Hegde, M B Puranik, Sharan Pumpwell, Dinesh Kankanady, Jagadish, Harish Amtady and Jithendra Kottari were present on the dais.

Hi Rakesh,Rajesh,Suresh and all in support of these antisocial group,If this group taken oath to protect the nation why cant go to the India-Pakistan border and fight against the enmies who spoil countrys peace(If you are a real men with muscle strength) instead of attacking weaker section(women & girls) ?
Before making others to adopt Indian culture first let them learn what real meaning & its values. If want to unite India then discard your flag and carry Indian flag(I cant see any one carrying Indian flag).First try & decipline their sisters, mothers, wife then worry about others this is just a advise to those people trying to protect our nation

Rakesh Shetty,Dinesh Poojary and the young people seen in the photographs are excellent candidates to join the Indian Army and protect the country on the Pakistani ( in J & K ) & Chinese borders.Send them immediately for rigorous army training instead of raping young girls who are young enough to be their sisters.

This young blood are found just wasting their precious time. They probably are well fed at home and seem strapping.

I feel Mr.Hegde strongly felt that these groups have taken the image of anti-social and jobless people in the society......since he strongly felt this it he seems to have made a commitment towards image correction.........I feel protecting the nation goes well if these people can move out of their small town towards other states of central and north India wherein there is rampant corruption , dacoity , crime against women etc........at least why not fight corruption in govt. offices in Mangalore....I feel most of the while these groups are busy fighting with the minority groups and creating a religious stir they do nothing else worth while.

they should leave the job of protecting the country to the police and govt authorities, as citizens our job is to only follow the law not to take it in our hands.
and if these ppl truly respect their country they would know that IT IS DISRESPECTFUL TO HOIST THE FLAG AFTER SUNSET.

Which country do they belong to and whose culture are they protecting??? from what?!!!I agree with all the others who have suggested that they need to join the armed forces if they want to put action behind their words. Otherwise they need to go find a job or something useful to do.

India does not need vhp-bdal to protect It and Its culture. what we need is these rouges to abide the law. if ther are really intrested in our Nation then let them do the following
    1. find out how many acid attack victims are there and get the culprits punished.
2.find out how many girls/women are traficked and find where they reached and get the mafia
    3. go to every office and department and stop the curruption.
these are very few concerns can you vow to fight it out. I wonder why these doupes are allowed and given this publicity

What a way to protect the country! If groups like you want to protect the nation you have to be at the Kashmir border fighting the Pakistani army. I just read this article in daijiworld about the Belthangady youth who died at the border. He was truly protecting the nation. Communal groups like you are verbally pledging to protect the nation and doing goodagiri with your own country men. Jai ho!!!
