Mangalore, Aug 19: Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival that marks the end of the month of Ramadan, was celebrated with utmost joy and devotion here on Sunday August 19.

Special Eid Namaz (prayer) was offered at Idgah on Lighthouse Hill at 9 am, led by Qazi Al Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar.

Thousands of people from all walks of life, and from various corners of the city and outskirts gathered at the Idgah ground and prayed in unison.

Soon after the Namaz, the Idgah resounded with 'Eid Mubarak' wishes as people greeted, embraced each other and shook hands.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of Ramadan, a month of abstinence from food and water from dawn to dusk, shunning lies, fraud, injustice, illegal acts and keeping away from temptations. It is a month of giving - Zakat or charity forms an important aspect of observing Ramadan in its true spirit. It is also the time to seek forgiveness and blessings from the Almighty.
