Now, Sleeper Class Travellers must Carry ID Proof

New Delhi, Aug 20 (DHNS): In a move to curtail blackmarketing of non-AC sleeper class tickets by transferring them, the Railways will make it mandatory for passengers to carry identity proof.

A decision in this regard may be taken soon, a senior Railway Ministry official said.  “This is being done to prevent travelling on transferred tickets,” the officials say.

Railways has already made it mandatory for AC class passengers to carry identity proof.

Passengers travelling on a Tatkal or an e-ticket also have to carry identity cards.  After this decision, passengers without original identity proof in sleeper class will be treated as “without ticket” and will be liable to pay penalty.

Passengers can carry any of these nine ID proofs while undertaking train journey - voter ID card, passport, PAN card, driving licence, photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/state government, student identity card with photograph issued by recognised school/college, Aadhar card, nationalised bank passbook with photograph and credit cards issued by banks with laminated photograph.

The Railways will soon launch an awareness campaign among passengers of sleeper class on the issue.

This idea may not work. Instead , govt must think of increasing number of trains/ coaches so that all persons who wanted to travel can travel. Now the move is to avoid travelling by creating unnecessary curbs.

I reckon there should have gates at the enterance of the platform itself and every passenger should be checked for their ticket against their Identity.. if it get too conjusted jus to get in and out of one gate they can have multiple gates like elderly people and disabled people go through one sleeper class go through one 1st class go through one if not may be they do sereis wise alpha A to D through one gate and vice versa

It is a good idea but we need to have spot checks inside the compartments as the corrupt Ticket Examiners in the trains are capable of taking bribes and allowing bogus passengers to travel. In fact people who travel without ID or travelling on other persons' ticket should not only pay fine but should be detained as they could be a threat to other bonafide passengers. This new move will not reduce the revenue of the Railway but immensely benefit the honest travellers.

Good move by the Government. Some form of Identity should be mandatory for everyone who is moving/traveling out of village/town/city. Possession of I. Card helps the person as well as administrators in many ways.

ID Proof should be made mandatory while your travel,a benefit to the society and to the traveller itself. A delayed idea but good to have one in near future. A ID proof always helps to the system in the govt a citizen or a visitor?.
