Bangalore: Minister Ashok to Visit North-East, Ask People to Return

Minister Ashok to Visit North-East, Ask People to Return

Bangalore, Aug 21 (IANS): Karnataka Home Minister R. Ashok Tuesday said he will visit north-east states soon to assure the people there that the state was safe and the thousands who had left it recently following rumours should return.

"Nagaland and Manipur leaders have invited me. If Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi invites me, I will visit that state too," Ashok, who is also the deputy chief minister, told reporters here.

Dates of the visit, however, have not been fixed.

Around 25,000 north-east people left Bangalore between Aug 15 and Aug 19 following rumours of impending attack on them in retaliation for violence in Assam.

The home minister said the rumour mongers had set Aug 20 as deadline for the north-east people to leave the city or face attacks.

However, there had been no violence in Bangalore or any other part of the state, he pointed out and said the north-east people who had left the city should return to their work.

Ashok said around 350,000 north-east people were living in Karnataka, of which over 240,000 were in Bangalore alone. Of the total north-east people in the state, only around 25,000 had left for their home towns.

Assam Transport Minister Chandan Brahma and Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka and Nagaland Power Minister Doshehe Y. Sema and parliamentary secretary for social welfare and women development Chotisuh Sazo had visited Bangalore separately last week to review the situation with Ashok and assure their people about safety.

Mr Yogesh, Bombay. You have NO RIGHT to refer to the people from the North East as Chinkis. Looks like you are unaware that after a recent law that was passed it is illegal to use that term. Hence refrain from that. Also change this racist attitude that you have.

This is too much Ashoka. Don't overact. We have not sent them out. Everyone including our CM convinced them to stay here.

Bangalore and Karnataka is safe. That is why Bangalore is known in the world. Many people of the world knows India because of Bangalore and Karnataka.

Central Govt should pitch in now. Illegal Bangladeshis should be sent out. Today they are threatening Assamis and Manipuris. If this continues one day they will threaten rest of Indians.

Dear Mr. Ravi Ullal, North-East matter is definetly a serious matter to the country, but it also started as a stry incident and due to negligence of poleticans has grown in to national disaster.

Please note for me injustice to victims is of equal importence, either it is a stray incident or not.
Such stray incidents if ignored will grow to a level that you may not be able to control.

Let Honarable Deputy CM visit Goa also along with North East to get some coaching from Goa CM Mr. Parikar on how to contol such issues.

please do not generlize the subject, injustice is injustice weather in small incident or big

Exodes of North East people from Bangalore/Karnataka during the last week is really painful for people of Karnataka. The people who have come to Karnataka/Bangalore for making a confortable living/studies had to abruptly return to their place on the threat of attack and the news created by mischieveous/anti national elements.
I heartly complement government of Karnataka particularly Home Minister Sri Ashok/Police officers/personnels for swift action in creating peaceful/tension free atmosphere especially during Ramzam times.Mr.Ashok personally got involed day and night in instilling confidence among NE people who have stayed back.
Now the government should initiate steps to see that those returned to NE states are returned immediately and their normal activities are restored forthwith. These people are earning megre income and during few days no income but expenditure only.Hope Sri Ashok will arrange free trains to all migrants or bear the railway fare and allied expenditures of those people and exhibit a gesture of goodwill of Karnataka and also humanity
