Kundapur, Aug 22: In an amusing incident, a surveyor, fearing Lokayukta interrogation and perhaps arrest, jumped over a wall on the rear end of his office and escaped, even as Lokayukta raided the office here on Wednesday August 22.
The Lokayukta raided the local land survey office and geological department, Byndoor survey division, after a complaint was filed by Uppunda Gram Panchayat member Ravichandra.
A week ago Ravichandra had applied for conversion of his 14.5 cents land and wanted surveryor Manjappa to prepare a blueprint. However, Manjappa kept demanding Rs 3000 from Ravichandra for carrying out his duty. The latter brought this to the notice of Lokayukta.
On Wednesday, as soon as the Lokayukta sleuths arrived, Manjappa jumped over the rear wall and absconded. Officials have noted that he left behind his mobile phone and footwear while escaping.
Lokayukta inspector B P Dinesh Kumar said that their visit was based on complaints by the public. "Many files are pending and more details will be furnished after the investigation," he said.
Inspector C A Thimmaiah and staff Divakar Suvarna, Nagesh Udupa, Riyaz Ahmed, Shivaraya, Shreedhar, Umesh and Santhosh were part of the raid operation.
There were numerous complaints from the public with regard to corruption in the survey office which is attached to the special tahsildar office. This is the third Lokayukta raid on the Byndoor tahsildar office.
Byndoor special tahsildar said that if public have any grievances with the revenue department, the same can be brought to his notice for immediate action.
