Mangalore: Manufacturers Caught Cheating Consumers with False Product Weights

Mangalore: Manufacturers Caught Cheating Consumers with False Product Weights

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (PS)

Mangalore, Aug 23:
Following media exposure, the weights and measurement department headed by M P Ganesh and his team on Wednesday August 22 filed cases against products that allegedly pack less than the weight mentioned on their packets.

The team raided severals shops and malls and found at least five branded products weighing less than the weight mentioned on the pack.

Earlier on Tuesday August 21, a general store merchant approached the media after a particular brand of wheat flour packet which was supposed to weigh one kilogram was found to be weighting 780 grams, and a few others 820 grams and some packets  840 grams, thanks to the handiwork of package department personnel or the manufacturers.

Clifford Saldanha, a merchant who owns ‘Saldanha Stores’ grocery shop in Kankanady market was stunned to see a 1 kg Ashirwad wheat flour packet weighing only 820 grams when he placed accidently it on the weighing machine. He said the brand is very popular and he was shocked to see each packet weighing differently. "None of the packets weighed 1 kg as mentioned in the product packet. I noticed it accidentally," he said.

He said that Ashirwad was a good branded wheat flour bought by many of his customers. Imitation of packets of branded products also cannot be ruled out, he said.

BETTER MAKE IT A HABIT TO CHECK THE WEIGHT OF ALL PRE-PACKED PRODUCTS BEFORE BILLING THEM.

Hope this is limited to mangalore city only. We are lost in mud slinging to each other, so larger issues of common good are lost to us. The hoarders, manufacturers may be having a field day.

Case in consideration : The kori rotti packet steadily has come down from 500 gms to 300 gms now, and the price rising steadily. Many people think that it is a 'packet' of usual weight and due to price rise, the price has gone up. What they don't realize unless they look at the tag is, that the packet also is halved.

We mangaloreans, rarely are alert to common social problems as we are pre-occupied with anti sentiments.

Hi friends for your kind notice the issue with the atta is only in one batch of production as per my study there was thecnical defect in machinery so this caused to the problem. if you check same brand with other batch of production every pack has atleast 10grms more. ITC has its existence of more than 100 years Who are known for their quality products.

High time that we consumers takeup this issue with consumer protection forum and claim damages.

It is not only just the weight, but the quality of milk and dairy products, grains, and other food items must be fully scrutinised and exposed.

Erring companies and retailers must be brought to justice.

How can such reputed food supplier can afford lose its reputation, without having a strict control over this. There are other branded manufacturers doing the same way. In lieu of actual weight packets they are using less weight packets and charging for the higher weight. Actually the customer should be alert. Everybody in a hurry to reach home after office hours doesn't bother to check this.

ITC shareholders who got their Annual General Meeting Booklet know why the weight is less!
The prices remain the same by filling less, instead of raising their price.
By mistake they haven't put correct labels(stickers) mentioning their correct weight.
Please check the revised rate for 1kg atta which has been raised while it remains the same on packets weighing less.
An offense is an offense whether its a mistake by manufacturer or seller though.
    So Buyers Beware.

During our holidays we withdraw cash from a reputed bank counter i received 1 note less of 1000 this was a lady cashier, as there was rush, i stood just side and counted found out there is 1 note less, and this cashier was also noticing me, before i could open my mouth she gave me 1 note which was kept aside by her with a word sorry. I cannot forget this incident and thought it was a mistake, but still i was confused how she knows what is the shortage, now i got the answer. Thanks for bringing this important issue to other readers.

Jeevan etc. stop politising each and everything. It is not about congress etc. It is instead about baniya (indian) business ethics, practices, and principles which have been hard-wired in our brain and DNA. Unless and until, we teach our children all about social responsibility at an early age, and not focus on teaching how to hoodwink the next bakra, at least our future generations will not be so corrupt.

Dear Readers, This is what happening when you are buying a cake during X'Mas time.
Make sure to check the weight of the cake while shopping. Dealer always says Rs. X/kg and gives 1/2 & 1 kg cake to customer, infact 1/2 kg cake weighs only 320 gms and 1 kg cake weighs 750 gms. (this is how our leading mangalorean sweet shops make money)

Annaji, any government comes goes they increase the sugar price every year it is our concern to consume less sugar due to the demand the sugar price goes up you may aware India is No.1 in diabetics that means we are consuming more sugar than anyone else in this world. For your own health try to reduce sugar instead of taking one spoon try half spoon so that you will save money as well as health if everyone take this step then the sugar price will go down due supply is more and demand is less means price .

For those who shunted cheating to bank employees here I wish to mention that cheats are spread all over thee world in entire domians. Some time people who havee commented here also might have cheated somebody I am sure. But there are lot of honest and sincere people are also there. There is no cure for cheating otherwise qwe would not have ruled by caolgate,2G,CWG,Adarsh hsg gotala people.Way out is every body must be vegilent. Is it possible for a country like ours? Definitely not.Majority of our bank customers do not know corretly to write pay in slips, draw cheques, understand banking regulations.Loanees in banks even does not know what is the rate of interst charged to their account, what rate of interest they get for their deposits, how to repay the loan instalments without default etc.,etc.,
Cheat and get cheated is a vast subject and it does not confine only to Banking or aby other business actvity. It is the univrsal phinomina...try to live with it wihout being cheated !!!

A strict vigilance by the consumer forum and the strict actions of a kind to all the manufaturers will save the consumers from any kind of hidden cheating to an extent. .

Here all should note that even in nationalized banks whenever you withdraw cash please count the notes, specially NRI's we just take the notes and stuff in the pocket. Unless they are bundled and sealed by the bank. its my own experience the cashiers deliberately give 1 or 2 notes less, Once i got 2 notes less and i simply told the cashier there are 3 notes less promptly he replied no sir only 2 notes less, that means he already knew. I think that was one of the worst day of his life. He litterally begging not to complain and i just warned and left him. This happens most of the time and their simple answer is sorry it slipped, please be beware and take this advice.
