Udupi : Padubidri Gets Hi-Tech Fish Market

Hemanath Padubidri
Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (NM)

Udupi, Aug 26: The second modern hi-tech fish market of South-India was inaugurated by the district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary here on Sunday, August 26.

Speaking after the inauguration, Poojary said, "Poor fisherwomen will be given loan at the interest of 3% and a maximum loan from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 will be extended.”

Presenting some of the upcoming plans of the central and state governments for the welfare of women, he stated that every fisherwoman will be given a heat-resistant box worth Rs 5,000.

Addressing the people, MP Jayaprakash Hegde stressed on keeping the market clean.

“For every project, the central government releases 90 per cent of the funds and the state government releases 10 per cent. Therefore, in order to get funds from the central government for the construction of a port near Hejamadi, the authorities concerned must write a complete letter along with the cost of estimation and budget” he added.

Humorously he said “We talk of women empowerment across the country, however the fisherwomen are always strong”.

The arch shaped market is constructed at the cost of Rs 76.92 lacs under the aegis of Coastal Development Authority, Mangalore with the support of the state government and National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, is one of its 10 other projects.

The other high-tech fish markets will come up  at Kaup, Katpady, Sasthana, Uppunda and Bydoor (all in Udupi district), Shirali, Ankola and Karwar (all in Uttara Kannada district) and Bantwal (in Dakshina Kannada district).

The new fish market has facilities that include toilets, dressing room, rest rooms, dining and bathrooms and more importantly individual space (cabin) to sit and sell the fish.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon presided over the function.

Nagaraj Shetty, former president of Coastal Development Authority and NFDC's executive director Dr CK Moorthy were felicitated during the function for being the root cause of its construction.

Shankar Poojary, president,  zilla panchayat Katapady , Devdas Hebbar, president, taluk panchayat , Nithin Kumar, president, Karnataka Fisheries Development Board , Vijayalakshmi Acharya, president of Padubidri grama panchayat, Gitanjali Suvarna, zilla panchayat member , Bhaskar Padubidri, Amita Poojary, District Cooperative Fisheries Federation president Yashpal Suvarna, State Fisheries director H S Veerappa Gowda, assistant director Suresh Kumar, Ravindranath G Hegde,  Umesh Nagappa Nayak, Vittal Deimane, Junjanna, Gujjadi Prabhakar Nayak were present among the others for the function.

i think high tech word is used because this is the third such market with floors and walls covered with tiles, fish try of stainless steel, conceiled drainage, granite partitions, rest room with benches anda flat tv, individual lockers, bath room, two toilets indian and western, ceiling something like 30ft, no other floors, many windows for air ciculation, ice boxes, apron, glouse, slippers, three settler drainage tanks , seperate bore well, solar generator and treatment plant(suggested but ?) and to be managed by the ladies themselves(panchayat is not willing). sir do you think name is justified?.. one more thng very people are aware is that intial proposal came from a environmental group which did the survey of 11 markets, asked the ladies what they needed, took their signature and submitted to the coastal dev, authority. none of the representatives new about it , but later influenced the likely places. i think it is an uniquue expariment in this part of india.

Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai agree with you sir. BJP means development. So we like to elect BJP again in the next coming elections rather than electing corrupt political parties like congress and JDS. BJP is also corrupt, but definately best among the worst. So it's better to vote for BJP again.

I was under the impression that hi- tech fish market will have a ATM type machine to vend out 'Bhootahyi' and 'Bangude' when customer puts the money and opts for quantity of fish he wants.
No such arrangements in a HI-TECH"fish market?!!!!!!!

I am yet to know the "Hi-Tech" aspect as said in the above article??

Do they provide them cold storage facilities or similar facilities so the fish remains fresh at all times??

If not, what is the definition of "Hi Tech"??

First and foremost these fisher folks must learn to keep the place clean as it was on the opening day.

So many public servants that too former officials attending opening ceremony proves that they are really idle in public life.

What we need is , not ultra maaadren fish market , but preservation of fish species. Look arround udupi district , most of species are in danger . Factories like fish meal often discharge their waste directly into the river . There were lot of agitations also , but no use . These fish meals work like mafia and have powerfull lobby. I hope our new MP looks into these matters. We are , specially peaple from udupi and kundapur dirstict are very fond of river fish like ....kandige , baige , kemmeer. These fish tastes like heaven , and in danger due to polluted water. Its been on our menu since ages , i wish it vl continue.....

Few days back “A High Tech Fish Market" was inaugurated in Karkala and Congress Gram Panchayat Members patted their back themselves for the credit but little did they realize that their record was broken within one day. It took Congress Gram Panchayat to make one such market 60 years but surprisingly Gram Panchayat at Padubidri made it in 2 years

Dear friends, before lambasting state govt for 90% central and 10% state funds let us understand how funding for any project works. States recieve grants from center from money collected proportional to what they put in the kitty. Some states are inefficient/slow in using up their allocated funds such as Bihar under Lallu Prasad and the money reverts back. Some states such as Karnataka are proactive in proposing projects and getting the same uted. Let us appreciate the good work done by state govt, whether it is Congress or BJP.

MARKET IS VERY HIGH-TECH AND LOT OF FACILITIES BUT WE MUST SEE AFTER SOME TIME HOW OUR PEOPLE MAINTAIN IT.
ALSO AS EMINENT FISH EXPERTS OPINE ALL FISH WILL BE ONLY ON PICTURES BY 2060 DUE TO EXTREME OVER-FISHING, OVER-POLLUTION AND GLOBAL WARMING.
SO THE GOVT MUST BE INSTALLING FISHERIES MUSEUM IN ADVANCE.

It is good development and surely a respect to all citizens who pay the taxes. However, the ministers lack of knowledge and greediness in minting money there might be needed things will be vanished from the project.

Hi-Tech fish market needs some of the major plans like, Proper drainage system and disinfecting, neutralizing system. Need a good cold room storage which run 24 hours, 7 days in a week with out any shut downs. Weekly disinfecting of all floors, walls also regular maintaining and painting of the whole structure. Strictly prohibit the eating Pan, Smoking, and spiting in side market. Good ventilation and exhaust system must work through out the business hours. Hope our money has some value and we may look forward a good HI-TECH FISH MARKET.

Byndoor fish market is pathetic. It looks like a mumbai slum area. Mr Gopal Poojary was MLA for 3 times until 2008. But he did nothing.

He is better in his New Shanthi Sagar Hotel Business. Unfit to be MLA. His education is big zero, can't speak Kannada properly. He is like Mallikarjuna Kharge in speaking. No brain, no skills.

His policy is simple, just attend marriages, bayake maduve, grihapravesha, upanayana etc and give handshake to people.

Under BJP rule, Byndoor got full fledged Govt Hospital. Yeddi inaugurated hospital. Now state of the art new fish market is coming up.

    JAI BJP.

Anyone with some thoughts? Instead of blaming government we need to take some responsibility. I think volunteer clean drives may be a solution and so is stop littering! what say dear Mangaloreans?
