Mangalore: Students to Hold Mass Rally Against Home Stay Attack on Sep 1

Mangalore, Aug 30: Various like-minded organizations like Youth Congress, NSUI, SFI, Youth Janata Dal, DYFI, AISF, VJD(S), AIYF will hold a mass protest in city on Saturday September 1.
Munir Katipalla, district president of DYFI addressing a press meet here on Thursday August 30 said that the unity among students of various religions was destroyed with the attack on home stay at Padil by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists on revelers last month.
"Hence on September 1, students of all colleges will boycott classes and will gather near Jyothi circle at 10 am in large numbers. A procession will be taken out till the DC’s office where the protest will be staged," he said.
Mithun Rai, president of district Youth Congress said that though the Youth Congress had submitted a memorandum to the city police commissioner urging stringent action against the attackers, no action has been taken yet. "The attackers should be charged under Goonda act" he urged.
"On the day of the protest as many as 10,000 students are expected to take part in the protest. Students need to fight against moral policing by coming to the streets," he said.
"The partying youths have been targeted by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists and the situation is such that students belonging to different communities are cannot even have picnics together, or even have friendhips," he rued.
Ivan D’Souza, KPCC secretary, Yogish Shetty Jeppu of JD(S), Vinayaraj, Shashiraj Shetty among others were present during the press meet.
A release given to the media stated that police department should not heed to any pressure from political quarters, and thereby protect the constitutional rights of the citizens.
