Mangalore, Sep 1: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy on Saturday September 1 felicitated popular singer Babitha D’Sa and music composer Muralidhar Kamath for their contributions to Konkani culture in their respective fields.

Hearty congratulations to Babita (Zorin) D'Sa! I have the privilege of seeing her and talking to her very often because she lives in my neighbourhood. I salute her for entertaining the Konkani community with her melodious voice for several years. Her voice is thrilling and her songs (solo & duets with Prem Kumar) are memorable. Alas, her singing career was abruptly suspended to to her husband's untimely demise and now her valuble time is spent after the family business. However, she sings in the Cascia Church Choir - that is our advantage!!
We all will be happy if Babitha can find some time and starts singing love songs once again. Johnel

Is it the same Babita, who I used to see as young fat girl in Wilfy Rebimbus' group? I was a small boy then when Wilfy used to bring his group to Kinnigoly whenever there used to be konkani plays in the church premises. Babita used to sing so melodiously with a beautiful smile on her face. Congratulations ! Babita.

Mr.M.R.Kamath former President of Konkani Samskritika Kendra,Mangalore with like minded had recently played Konkani Yakshagana prasanga "Mahisha Mardhini" few months back at Town hall Mangalore which was a great success.Entire hall was full to its capacity and people appriciated and enjoyed the event which was held FOR THE FIRST TIME.Indeed the attempt by amature artists who are members of Konkani Samskritka Kendra was a great experiment.Concerned should recognise such cultural activities to expand similar activities further.

It is nice to see Konkani activities by Konkany Acadamy and allied organisations in and around Mangalore in recent times. Thanks to Karnataka government to providing required suppot and resourses from time to time.

I feel that Sri M.R,Kamath,Mangalore should have inductd in to Konkani Sahithya Acadamy by virtue of his long association/working for Konkany purpose through Konkani Samskritika Kendra which is doing great job.

Congratulations to Ms.Babitha D'Sa for the State Konkany Sahitya Academy Award. This is a long awaited and long desired recognition that is most fitting to a lady that has dedicated so much for so long.

We know Babitha and her dedication for Konkany music much before her marriage to late Leslie D'Sa. She has been a strong supporter of United Youngsters group along with late Wilfy Rebimbos.

Thank you, Babitha for all your untiring services towards the Konkany talents. The last we met you for your daughter's wedding where you also sang a song along with late Wilfy Rebimbos. Let your voice be heard far and beyond the Konkany gatherings, and wishing you continued good health and happiness at all times.
