Mangalore: Children have Gala Time Grabbing Goodies at Govt School

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 3: Small packages with snacks, vegetables and many other day-to-day items spread across an open ground, with lucky chits hidden inside the packages. And children waiting curiously to grab the goodies.

The scene was witnessed at the city’s Bokkapatna Government High Primary School premises on Sunday September 2. The occasion was 'Vastusoore' programme, organized for children by Dharmabhumi Pratishtaana, Bokkapatna.

Prior to the event, a stage programme was held in which mayor Gulzar Banu along with several others took part.

The centre of attention were the eager children, who were curiously waiting to grab the little packages. The stage programme had to be winded up soon as the children started moving ahead to grab the items even as the programme was set to start.

As soon as the organizers flagged off the event, the children plundered over the packages and emptied the ground in no time. They eagerly opened the packages to find prizes like iron box, water storage drum, all arranged neatly on the stage.

The lucky winners took home the prizes, but those who did not get any goody were not disappointed either, as they were allowed to keep the packages for themselves.

A humane thought of feeding the little children and keeping them happy, however the distribution of food items in suah an unsafe manner, the children could have hurt themselves.

It does not look nice to see food on the ground. Playing things would have looked better on the playing ground. Food should be always respected but not played with.

First impression by just looking at the pictures "bad".. after reading the article it became "WORST"... Training the childrens how to survive in our country? We already went through the worst days in our childhood, lets atleast teach these kids not to pull and push for ones benefit. Teach them how to share and live happily... Come on people its high time we should change the way we live...

I dont think this was a good idea - why have children run crazy to pick something? May be they are preparing kids for the real life in India!! After all, everything is a fight - getting ticket, getting into the bus, train, paying bill, school admission, job!! It's about survival of the fittest in India...

great nice to see children njoying. its one way where children are by themselves. a good guide/ teacher can learn lot from this type of fun/games like selfishness, sharing and correct the children and teach them the right values. well done let many more activities be conducted for these children

Beautiful pictures of children having a gala time. Who ever thought of this should be praised for bringing some joy to these children. Please note most of these children studying in the Government school are economically backward and such a small gesture from generous persons brought some joy into their lives. Regarding hygine and safety, I note that most of the fruits and eatables are packed in Cellophane bags. Only large fruits like pineapple are open, to consume which you have to pare the peal, which is a daunting task and all the mud / grime will be pared off. As for safety, children otherwise too get hurt playing games and they have the presence of mind and tenacity to avoid danger. Don't be spoil sports and comment on such trivial things. Don't envy the little pleasure the donors got from seeing the wide grins of these kids. Instead of commenting, do something better in future for these least fortunate ones.

Unhygienic and unorganised. Fruits and snacks spread across the ground and little ones are stepping on that and stumbling the same in a hurry to catch more thereby making it unsafe for consumption. Organisers should have given importance to cleanliness. This is not the lesson for students

why many of you are commenting the way are commenting. First of all why bring politics in this function arranged for the children. your minds are deranged.
Children are grabbing, pushing each each other or fighting over the items. They are trying to find the packs of their liking. I think it was real fun for the children and like Rakesh (once) put it reminds me of my childhood days too.
I hope this kind of "KHEL" for children are arranged in many places, for them to mingle with each other, laugh and chide each other innocently and have a great time
One should really thank the organisers

Nice to see little children enjoy grabbing the booty but some of our narrow minded commentators are waiting to grab every opportunity to politicize everything they come across.

Nice pictures daiji.this kind of games encourage children to mingle among themselves like kabaddi and also it helps to eradicate communal feelings among children in this early age.

Why the organisers dont take enough precautions so as to avoid accidents before organising such events? Frrom the pictures it looks like anything could have happened because of stampede. Health and safety should be taught at school.

Grabbing being taught to innocent children ! and it will be embedded in their lives to live to grab. Yes goodies are to be given to the children. Great good work. Distribute them and all will be happy both the strong and the weak ones. How very sad are the ones who could not grab ? it will be a scar on them.

I think the Idea/Concept was good. But the implementation was worst and it looks like people are being trained to loot. Instead organizers should have distributed the packets randomly in a more systematic way rather than allowing the kids into barge this small place.
