SC Lifts Ban on Iron Ore Mining for Karnataka

SC Lifts Ban on Iron Ore Mining for Karnataka

New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS):
The Supreme Court Monday lifted the ban on iron ore mining in category A mines in Karnataka's Bellary, Chitradurga and Timkur districts.

The apex court forest bench headed by Justice Aftab Alam said the lifting of the ban would only be effective in 18 category A mines, subject to their compliance with statutory clearances.

The court said the structural clearances involve approval from the mining department, environmental clearance, pollution clearance from the state pollution control board and an undertaking by the mining lease owners that they will comply with comprehensive plans for rehabilitation and reclamation of the depleted mines in a time-bound manner.

Mining operations will commence only upon the satisfaction of the monitoring committee about the compliance of structuring clearances by the mine owners.

The A category mines are those which are either free of any illegality or had committed marginal illegalities in their mining operations.

All the clearances required for mining are hog wash.

Thanks to SC for making K'taka another Hiroshima by granting mining licences.

Now once again, Yeddi, Reddys and Chaddis will start the same thing again and cause the mother of all scandals in K'taka.

Ever since “Coal Gate” & “Granite Scam” came in to picture, all Central Authorities gone soft towards “Iron Ore Mining” cases. Within few months, Reddy Brothers too come out of bail since they told CBI that they even paid donations to Congress Party too. In this “Chupke Chupke Khel” when there is a “Tera bhi Chup, Mera bhi Chup” policy, no Political party is immune to corruption. Whether Congress or BJP, they are the same coin with two faces only. I wonder what will happen to those Congress Leaders who went on to dancing in “Paada Yatra” opposing Iron Ore Mining at Bellary by saying “Natural Resources are our National Property” and now even Coal and Granite too falls on natural resources they believe I hope!!!!

Whether legal or illegal, coal is required for power generation. Without power no development. Hence, the SC verdict is correct. However, future mining will be done cautiously taking into account the fate of Reddy brothers. We put comments without actually knowing the facts. Law takes its own course. Because there are people belonging to GOD on this earth who see that justice always prevails!!!

I am worried about the future of Shiradi ghat road.It was repaired in June 2008 and for few months it was OK.Went bad within 3-4 months and situation was worst in 2009-10.Now road is motorable but future seems to be gloomy with opening gates for iron ore loaded heavy trucks.
