Bangalore : Country’s Longest Inter-city Bus Rolls Out

Bangalore, Sep 5 (DHNS) : The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Tuesday flagged off the country’s longest (14.5 mts) inter-city Volvo multi-axle bus.

After launching the service, Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka said that the idea behind the long coach bus was to support efficient mass bus-based transport system, with economic utilisation of resource.

“We want to take the passenger comfort to a new level while travelling in KSRTC buses.

This Volvo 9400PX bus will ply between Bangalore and Mysore on a pilot basis and will be expanded to Bangalore-Chennai, Bangalore-Tirupati, Bangalore-Pune, Bangalore-Hyderabad, Bangalore-Panaji and other routes.

The bus also has an in-built pantry and a chemical toilet. For the Bangalore-Mysore route, the fare will be Rs 300,” he said.

The 41-seater has in-built television sets fitted in the back of each seat. Besides, mobile chargers are attached to each row.

A hatrack, a wash basin, a big size pantry, a coffee maker, a refrigerator along with a steerable rear tag-axle for better manoeuvrability, enhanced stability and larger luggage space are its other features.

The Transport Department has been plying a 14.5-mt bus with a passenger capacity of 110 for the last six weeks on the Outer Ring road in Bangalore.

BMTC MD K Srinivas said that the response was good and they were planning to introduce these buses on select routes.

haha funny comments.. By the way for those who are saying jai ho to bjp must note that vovlo's were first introduced during the congress rule. BJP has not started a single project on its own. They got everything readymade from the congress govt. Even the metro they boast of was already planned and sactioned during SM krishna's govt. BJP does not know to lay eggs but they only can run behind the already hatched chicks and steal the credit of making them. Karnataka is at its shameful plight at the moment with all the scams. All the pride it can talk about is not its own making.
Anyway I think there should be more reform with the existing buses, like Rajahamsa, high cost poor service and they say what 'we are shining?'

    Nagesh Nayak, Bangalore,

Before writing so high about KSRTC and BJP, you must travel on KSRTC buses in Gulbarga, Bijapur, Hubli and rural Bangalore, then you will know that private Mangalore buses are the best in the state.

Let's not forget the kickbacks behind the sale of Volvo buses to KSRTC.

Most important of all KSRTC never clean or wash their buses be it Volvo, or any other type as opposed to Coastal private buses, which i feel are the cleanest in the whole country from my bus travel experience from north, south, east and western regions of India.

These BMTC buses are not even maintained well, and are causing very high pollution on Bangalore.

HOPE PEOPLE WILL NOT JUST SIT IN THE TOILET PERMANENTLY THINKING THIS IS A SPECIAL ROOM WITH SPECIAL SEAT. ACTUALLY SOME OF THE MINISTERS WERE GOING TO SOUTH AMERICA FOR STUDY TOUR I THINK THEY WERE GOING TO STUDY HOW TO USE THE THE TOILETS IN BUS AND TO TEACH THE PASSENGERS. YOU SEE YOU NEED GREAT SKILLS AND BALANCE TO SIT ON TOILET SEAT WHILE TRAVELLING IN BUS IN OUR ROADS. GOVT CANNOT PROVIDE SEAT BELTS. SREEMAN SHETTAR SIR SIMPLY CALLED THEM BACK. I WAS THINKING THEY ARE GOING TO LEARN SALSA OR SAMBA. NOW WHO WILL TEACH THEM? BEFORE BUS LEAVES THERE WILL BE A DEMONSTRATION LIKE IN PLAIN HOW TO USE THE TOILET WILL BE THE MAIN THEME.

We have tachnology to manufacture super luxury bus but good roads. We do not have tehnology to maintain even if a good road is made.Even if you have good road and to travel via, one has to pay exhorbitant amount as toll charges though you have paid vehicle tax which is highest in India. The rate specified appears not so high when compared to NICE road charges you have to pay to go to Banneraghatta from city in Bangalore which presently Rs.165/- for cars. You pay road tax highest in the country and again pay NICE tax to travel. We are already paying charges to pass urine and use toilets in parks, public places now in Bangalore. But such tiolets are hopelessly maintained every where. All these money is utlised by ministers for making jolly tour in the name of study tour.A day may come when the government may charge citizens oxyzen tax for taking breath in the parks which now available for free!!!!!!Our politicians may be ready to introduce that also in future.......

NOW THEY WILL BUY AEROPLANES FOR MYSORE THEN THEY WILL MAKE AIRPORT, SOME SIMPLY SAY THEY TAKE HUGE COMMISSIONS, WHY YEDDY WANT COMMISSION WHEN HE HAVE SO MUCH LAND AND MINING MINE AND YOUR MONEY . GOOD DEVELOPMENT NOW BUY SOME SUPERFAST TRAINS FROM EUROPE WHICH TRAVEL OVER 350KMS PER HOUR. DONT WORRY ABOUT TRACKS. @Edward: First of all the costs are too high! And if they introduce bus-hosts, then they'll increase it further, meaning less people will travel in those buses due to high costs. Which is a loss for them. They can rather have cleaners at major bus stops like in Bengaluru itself, or Tirupati. So once in a while its cleaned.

This is less than our normal buses running on every route. Welcome decision to provide Hi-tech facility in these buses, but do they appoint enough maintenance people to look after these buses? Good job Mr.Ashok. However I recommend that they have bus hosts, just like air hosts, but here instead inform passengers how to keep the toilet clean. Sorry to say this but most of us lack civic sense when it comes to using public toilets.
It is our job now to ensure that we responsibly use the utilities provided by the government.Because ultimately we all have paid for it.
In long journeys, it is also better they provide dust bins, because I have seen in many buses, people eating ground nuts, packet edibles, oranges plantain, etc and throw the husk, skin or empty packet under the seats. If we have dust bins, people will throw it there. But the bus host got to teach people some civic sense, if they throw it anywhere else. Sounds weird, but I am sure most of you will agree with me.

This longest bus will only add to the longest-traffic-jam of Asia at Bengaluru. Just learn from Mumbai City Transport B.E.S.T which is really the Best in Asia and efficiently serving 2 crore Mumbaikars. No luxury city buses in Mumbai unlike Bangalore, but Mumbai passengers are the happiest compared to all other cities of India. Instead of Long buses why Double-Decker buses are not introduced in Bengaluru just like Mumbai, as these Double Deckers are easy to maneuver in narrow roads to avoid traffic jams.
