Mangalore, Sep 5: Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi parishath (ABVP) District Leader N Sachin Gopal (19), a student of Modern ITC, Kannur, succumbed to stab injuries late this evening at KMC Hospital, Mangalore. ABVP Kannur Nagara Vice President Sachin had suffered stab injuries on abdomen in an attack by a gang allegedly owing allegiance to Campus Front/Popular Front of India on July 6 at Pallikunnu Bus Stand, when he came to Pallikunnu High school for membership campaigning.
Sachin was admitted to Mangalore Hospital on August 18 in a critical condition. His condition worsened even after surgeries were conducted at Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur.
In Mangalore, when ABVP activists heard the news of the death of its fellow ABVP member in Kannur, they gathered in good numbers to show their protest near Jyothi Circle, opposite KMC hospital.
ABVP leader S Ramesh appealed both Karnataka and Kerala government to ban the Campus Front of India, as its spreading communal hatred among the students community. Ramesh blamed CFI killing atleast a dozen of ABVP activists in the past.
He vowed to fight against CFI and its activities.
In Kannur, Police have arrested four Campus front/ PFI activists in this connection so far.
However, only two youths were remanded.
Kannur District Police Chief Rahul R Nair had appointed a 15-member special squad on August 24, led by Kannur DySP P Sukumaran to probe the attempt-to-murder case on Sachin Gopal. ABVP had given a memorandum to Home Minister Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan direclty alleging the police probe against the Campus Front and PFI activists, who were allegedly behind the attack, was not satisfactory.
