Subramanya, Sep 7: “The locals need to get in touch and co-operate with us regarding any information on Naxals, as Anti Naxal Forces have intensified combing operations in areas namely Sullia, Belthangady, Mudigere and Sakleshpur”, told IGP Alok kumar.
He was addressing the media after visiting Subramanya temple and seeking blessings from Narasimha Mutt seer, Shree Vidhyaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, along with his team which was involved in the encounter of a Naxal on Tuesday night.
“In spite of the daily hardships faced by the Anti Naxal Forces like lack of food, sleep, insect bites, rain, and so on, they are dedicated towards protecting the villagers and ensuring peace”, he said. He ensured the people that the government is ready to rehabilitate every naxal who would drop their weapons and surrender.
Cheluvaraj, DYSP, Satyamangala headquarters, special task force, Shashi Kumar, circle inspector, Arun, sub inspector and three constables visited the spot and carried out further investigations in order to collect information of the encountered naxal. As the naxals were fluent in both Kannada and Tamil, it is assumed that they belonged to Tamil Nadu.
“Naxals have always coexisted with guns. They require the possession of guns along with them, even while they perform their daily tasks like eating or sleeping; they want the guns more than their lives. They have come to realise that they have no life, if they leave their guns. They will not drop their guns until their last breath. Even if a naxal is lightly hurt, others carry him and walk out. Only after confirming that he is dead, the others will flee the scene”, said IGP Alok Kumar.
“As there is continuous combing in Kundapur and Hebri areas, the Naxals have fled to these regions for safety”, he added.
He described the dwelling of the encountered naxal as a place surrounded by river, and said that the Anti Naxal Force reached the place with great difficulty as the river water was raised to a large extent.
“The naxals had a strong belief that no one would reach their spot due to heavy rains and the bug bites. On Tuesday at around 7.45 pm, two naxals holding a torch light and moving forward, while the rest followed them. The encounter took place at that time and the firing resulted in the death of one naxal. Another naxal who was hurt managed to escape”, the IGP explained.
The encounter team comprised of officer Vasudeva (59) and Prasanna (53) and youths aged about 20 to 25. The youth group had undergone a special training in Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 10 lacs. “The dedicated youth team of the ANF is our biggest asset”, stated IGP Alok Kumar.
