Flat Seized from Italian Mafia to become Kids' Home

Rome, Sep 7 (IANS/AKI): Authorities in the Italian capital are converting an apartment that belonged to a mafia boss into a shelter for vulnerable children, officials said.

The director of the agency that administers impounded mafia assets authorised the re-assignment of the flat that once belonged to Calabrian mafia boss Antonio Palamara.

A set of luxury apartments in Corleone, Sicily, belonging to jailed mafia leader Salvatore Toto Riina, has been turned into the local headquarters of Italy's tax police.

In 2009, a luxury villa in the centre of Palermo that once belonged to Riina became the premises of an anti-mafia campaign group.
