Kasargod, Sep 11: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned near a dargah here on the evening of Monday September 10.

The baby was found near Sufibava dargah at Panjigudde, Mogral Puttur on national highway.

The incident came to light on Monday evening at around 7.30 pm.

On hearing cries of the baby, people who had arrived at the dargah to pray looked for it and found it wrapped in a white cloth.

The locals immediately informed the police who arrived at the spot and shifted the baby to the Kasargod general hospital.

It is suspected that the baby may have been abandoned a few hours after the delivery.

Dr B Narayan Naik, paediatric surgeon, examined the baby. The doctor confirmed that the baby weighed about 2.75 kgs.

Investigations are on to find out the whereabouts of the parents of the baby and how it came to be abandoned.

I have always wanted that an organizational set up exist where the army could bring up such children including destitutes and street children who would grow up to live for the country and whose religion and God would be Indian and India and the entire responsibility of education and upbringing be on the government and separate organizations within the Army. The children when grown up and educated with exposure to the Army would also have a readily available career which in turn also provides valuable assets to the country.

Dear Anita, NO mother like to abandon her own baby, but nobody knows under what circumstances the mother has kept the child in the dargah. At least she knew, some body will take care of her child there at Dargah as it is a holy place.

It is easier to mock but one will never know why & under what circumstances it has happened. I know one affluent family girl got pregnant and delivered in the tightlipped atmosphere in the hospital but the child was handed over to the couples. In documents the child got new parents. Our society circumstances is such, no body knows the background of the mother. Never know what is stored for all of us tomorrow.

Wish and pray the child will get good parents.

Glad to see so many couples wanting to adopt the child. Mother Theresa ashram at Calcutta has so many abandoned and orphaned babies and lil kids. I have couple of friends who have adopted from there and are very happy. May those little kids also get loving and caring parents.

This is a very sad story. It was great to see many people expressing their desire to adopt an orphan. But our Govt policy is not so favorable to adoption. It takes years as Mr. Bhat rightly said. Finding the parents is the better option here. Who knows what has really the case. We can hope and pray that they are safe and if financially supported will take the child back. Social problems are always very complex. Adoption is not the first option but the last.

Even though the mother is heartless to abonden her child I still appreciate her for not killing , aborting, or throwing her into the dust bin or in a gutter, she must be having her own weaknesses so may god bless the child with good parents.

The baby could have been born out of accident and outside the sacred institution of marriage. Its not childs fault. The parents need to be reprimaded for their mistake. They cant be cruel to their own children. They should have kept the child with them and faced the society and would have sought legal action against the father who might have been abandoned his love mate after enjoying her....We need to have a legal system to punish such fathers once their fatherhood is proved so that no man take a woman for granted....

Vinod, Mangalore, I am not discouraging you but adoption is a very lengthy time consuming and complicated procedure and by the time you are thru with the same the baby will be going to school! Nothing wrong in trying and atleast you can start the process.
