Bangalore, Sep 12: Sophisticated jammers would be installed in Karnataka’s top Central Jails like Bangalore, Mysore, Belgaum and Hubli.

Karnataka’s Prisons and Social Welfare Minister A Narayana Swamy told reporters in Bangalore on Wednesday that the Government decided to install sophisticated jammers in the wake of the success of the State police force in cracking terror modules and arresting a few terror suspects in Bangalore and Hubli recently.

The jammers would help in preventing the prisoners from using 3G enabled mobile phones and carrying out their activities by holding regular contacts with their associates and masterminds, the minister said.

Existing jammers had failed to block calls from 3G enabled operators, Narayanaswamy said.
The Central public sector undertaking, Electronic Corporation of India, Hyderabad, has been asked to install thejammers, he said adding that the estimated cost is Rs 7 crore.

The National Human Rights Commission has recommended for providing landline telephone facility to jail inmates and the Government would write to NHRC as well file an appeal in the High Court of Karnataka seeking the court’s permission not to provide landline telephone facility to prisons.

Despite installing jammers, some calls were made from Bangalore jail to Pakistan about a year ago, the Minister said pointing out that the security forces had to be constantly on the alert..

The Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara located on the outskirts of Bangalore has 120 supermax (high-security) cells to lodge terrorists and notorious underworld elements.

Another 80 supermax cells would be built at the Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara soon, he said.

A sum of Rs 2 crore would be spent for constructing 80 high security cells.

About 100 such high security cells in Bellary would soon be repaired, the minister said.

The City Crime Branch (CCB) police a few days ago arrested 14 persons, who had links with banned LeT and HuJI militant outfits.

Why Govt. wants to spend unnecessarily on any kind of jammers, when the Jail authorities themselves supply the jailbirds whatever they need for a good price.
The jammers will be deactivated when ever the jail authorities choose and the the goons will do what ever they want to do, anytime they want.
Earlier once, pictures of most notorius characters, Jailed but roaming outside jail, having a great time.
This is another way of fleecing tax-payers money.
Nothing new will be installed - only they will pretend of installing new jammers and pocket the entire money - from top minister to jail authorities.
    USELESS BJP GOVERNMENT.

Instead of “Jammers” they need “Interceptor” so that they can listen to all conversations, what is going on inside & outside the jail and who calls whom? This “Jammers” idea will not go well with few Political Leaders since they need constant connection with the In-Charge of Jail Wards to arrest or release someone.

Good move, install these sophisticated jammers in M'lore jails, our police personnel all over India are highly efficient. But unfortunately our resourceful leaders are capable of finding ways and means to let the culprits get away.

It goes against rights of jail birds. Major chunk of them r innocents who r often framed , poor and so weak defence in court . Even dreaded convicts also deserve their right. Almost all of them have wife , daughter , parents at home and they want to b in touch. If the jammers are made compulsary , hope they all vl be provided with landline telephony. World human rights organization should intervene here and also courts should favour convicts in this case. Morever peaple with terrorism charges can b kept separate , with total survilance on them . Other rights of jail birds include proper sanitaion and healthcare , education ( inc univeristy level ) , better income , parole should be included in jail term.

Similar jammers should be used in all Govt offices and even in the work areas of large corporate office.
Further, ICTV and Biometric security products based on complex and intricate patterns of the iris of the eye, which is unique to each individual, should be introduced in all Govt including Elected Members and in private offices for their attendance. 10-60% Govt officials are either on unofficial leave or bunks their duty and collect full salary. The higher officials and the department commissioners take days and months to just sign the approved files and certificates. Here the corruption breeds and the lower officials demand bribe. As social activist madam Aruna Roy said, corruption is a symptom where as the dirty politicians and the Govt department’s corrupt officials are the diseases.
    Jai Hind!
