Diesel Price Hiked by Rs 5/litre - Petrol, Kerosene Spared

New Delhi, Sept 13 (PTI):

The government today decided to hike diesel prices by Rs 5 per litre effective midnight tonight, but left petrol, kerosene and LPG rates untouched.

The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, this evening decided to raise diesel prices by Rs 5 per litre, excluding VAT (value-added tax).

It also decided to restrict supply of subsidised cooking gas to six cylinders per household in a year.

Diesel in Delhi costs Rs 41.32 a litre and after this hike, it will cost Rs 46.95, after considering 12.5 per cent VAT on the hike.

Petrol needed a hike of Rs 6 per litre but the government offset that by reducing excise duty by Rs 5.50 per litre from existing rate of Rs 14.78 per litre.

Mr Ravi Shanker Shanava, rightly said.To day bull roared with a bang!!It is a reaction for a increase in Diesel price by Rs 5.In fact fundamentals of healthy economy is tax/revenue collections.Subsidy is against healthy life of economy.Even world bank against sops and subsidies.I think when all these subsidies for fuel are with drawn then PETROL go up Rupees 100 plus and Diesel will be well behind petrol. That being said why can't central and state Govt forgo some portion of TAXES which said be highest.

The entire Nation is angry at govt for increasing diesel price as it will boost inflation further and make the life of common man miserable. All the opposition Parties as well as majority of the allies of Ruling party are also unhappy about the increase of diesel price.
But shockingly the Share Market is very Happy, which is reflected today by 450 points jump in Sensex. Is this called fishing in someone's pool of tears ?
Why the sentiment at Share market is always the opposite of sentiments of common people ? The heartless Profiteers always make money in the misery of other people, be it natural calamity or man-made problems.

If the government is providing good governance, then I can understand the price hike. But this government is privatizing all profitable national resources ( Like Coal, Spectrum, 2G, 3G, thorium etc)and making themselves and their relatives near and dear ones rich and rich day by day. At the same time they want aam aadmi to take burden of all their wrong doings. If the government wants they can generate income by many ways. But the soft target is Aam Aadmi. We protest for 2 days, they will reduce the hike by 1 Rs and we all will be happy, and also we will forget 2G, Coal etc. Supreme court must order independent enquiry against all those people who become rich suddenly (especially politicians). Like Raja, Kalmadi, Sharad Pawar,Chidu, Jaiswal, Sonia, Deve Gowda and family, Yeddi, Reddi etc. Our PM Maun Mohan sign, not only opening his mouth and also not acting. At least I will not call him a great economist. He not even a economist.

Are you aware what will happen because of this? Corruption, scam will increase because of this. How will you track the different vehicles?

It's not about diesel prices. The government has done its share with corruption, scam. There is no way to fill the fiscal deficit as each penny has been combed and moved to swiss bank.

Are they aware how it will affect the common people. They have reduced the excise duty for the oil companies. However, it doesnt make any use to people as this will help oil companies to make profit.

Each commodities and services in India are taxed. Still they are not able to solve the issues? First, we need able leaders/ economists who can create proper policies.

Somewhere I feel they are sure that UPA wont be elected during next election. So they want to burden the people before the end of their term.

Next year, even if NDA is elected they won't lessen the cost.

For the public transport system diesel should be made available at subsidized rate and private diesel vehicles should be made to pay unsubsidized rate to compensate the loss to a certain extent.

Sad to see that the peop,le can't see the big picture. For our country to have a stronger economy these measures are essential!! I don't see why the whole population needs subsidised petrol, deisel, kerosene and lpg!! Subsidy needs to be provided only to those in need of it and not the entire population. Personally I don't vote as CORRUPTION exists in ALL POLITICAL PARTIES!! Real immature of people to have a cry against upa for the price hike!! Well if people were a little educated with a little knowledge about how economy works then I don't think they wouldn't have a cry.

This UPA 2 or whatever has given up on winning the 2014 elections. Ridiculous policies and the ceiling on LPG cylinders has furhter left a bad taste. They have entered the kitchen of a 'common woman' and are bound
to face the backlashes. The only decisions this Cabinet seems to take is on 'price rising'. Sure there's going to be an uprising.
You cannot take the entire country for a 'ride' like this.
UPA- TATA for all purposes. Not that the 'Kichidi' alternative that will sprout wii be any better. God save us all.

The economy is facing problems not only in India but throughout the world in one way or the other effecting every nation. At this juncture why can’t all the M.L.A’s, M.P’s., Chief Ministers, Governors, Prime Minister, Opposition leaders, halve their salaries for the betterment of our economy instead of opposing every tooth and nail thereby provoking the public for power. Show your power in action by taking half salary not in a big mouth can you???!!! VERY HARD TO DIGEST.

The Rs 5 of diesel price increase will have enormous cascading effect on all food products and other commodities due to transporting charges . So the annoyance of getting caught in the theft case of COAL GATE is expressed through diesel.

    COAL , 2G , CWG

Besides diesel price hike govt has also stipulated that only six gas cylinders per family per year at present price (subsidized). But still there are many joint families in small towns and villages who have large number of members and for them one cylinder will last just for one month only. So, for getting more gas cylinders they have to break such joint family and become separate families atleast on paper and have separate Ration cards. This is not a good development.
The diesel price hike will add fuel to fire and increase the Inflation further adversely affecting all the sections of the society.
