Puthige Swamiji to Grace Formal Inauguration of Udupi Diocese

Udupi, Sep 15: The erection of the diocese of Udupi and the solemn installation ceremony of Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo as the first bishop will be held at Kallianpur Milagres Cathedral Grounds on October 15.

On July 16, the Pope Benedict XVI announced the erection of the diocese of Udupi and appointed Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo as its first bishop.

The grand celebration will begin with a short reception at 2 pm at Kallianpur-Santhekatte main junction and will proceed towards Milagres grounds where the solemn Eucharistic celebration will begin.

Apostolic Nuncio in India, Dr Salvotore Pennacchio will be the principal prelate along with Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo as the main celebrant of the Mass.

Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puthige Math will be the guest of honour, along with Dr Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio in India; Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore, and Oscar Fernandes, AICC general secretary and Rajya Sabha member. Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister for muzrai and district incharge, Udupi; Jayaprakash Hegde, MP Udupi-Chikmagalur;  Raghupati Bhat, MLA Udupi; Dr M T Reju, deputy commissioner, Udupi district, Aboobakkar N B, chairman, KMDC, Bangalore; Sunetha S Poojary, president, Kallianpur ZP will be the other guests. All of them will be felicitated during the ceremony.

The new diocese of Udupi will include the three taluks of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala and will be a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bangalore. The Church of Our Lady of Miracles will be the Church-Cathedral of the newly-erected diocese.
 
The clergy, religious and faithful of the Catholic diocese of Mangalore have invited the public to witness this ceremony at the Milagres Cathedral Grounds on October 15.

I have seen your posting in the past with positive thinking, great respect which I remeber my childhood in Mangalorewith my hindu brothers and sister who used to study with me in Christian school in the village.     Co-ordeal Interaction with various faiths is necessary to pursue peace and harmony. Our thoughts, words and deeds have tremendous impact in mental health of the society which is building or ruining the earth, where we live in. In this spirit, India and Pakistan are having dialog, though we had wars and hostilities in the past. Religious propagation, freedom of practice, can be explained in simple language like Various Companies, promoting their products in free market to build fair competition which is good for the society.
