Mangalore, Sep 16:
The state Patyapusthakagala Kesarikarana Virodhi Horata Samiti organized a state-level seminar at Loyola Hall here on Sunday September 16 to discuss saffronization in textbooks.

Inaugurating the programme Indudhar Honnapura, editor of Samvada newspaper said that infusing Manu script in academic textbooks is a conspiracy to spoil the harmonious relation among the people in the society.

He alleged that the story of ‘Punya Koti’ was altered in the 8th standard textbook in a bid to portray beef consumption as a bad practice. "This way, the original folk story was altered," he rued.

Asserting that Dalits have been sidelined by the upper class in Hindu religion, he said even Dr B R Ambedkar after failing to eradicate a caste-based society to reform Hinduism, joined Buddhism. "In contemporary times one needs education on the basis of secular ideology," he said, questioning the move of the government in saffronizing textbooks only in government schools where majority of the children come from backward classes, Dalits and poor families.

K L Ashok, state chief secretary of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike in his keynote address said that overstressing vedic scripts in textbooks is nothing but 'cold communalism' which would not be realized by many through naked eyes. "Saffronization is just like infusing poison into the minds of children and thereby to upholding a fascist ideology," he said.

Elyas Mohammed Thumbe, state president of PFI said that saffronization in education will depict Christians and Muslims as traitors which should be opposed by all.

Fr J B Crasta, bishop Geevarghese Mar Divannasios of Syro-Malankara Catholic diocese, Puttur, Sr Wiberta B S, Mohammed Kunhi, Nyzil Pereira, Walter Maben among others were present.

Suresh Bhat Bakrebailu, Komu Sauharda Vedike district president presided over the programme.

The very fact that we got to know that books published by Rasthrothana Trust, Bangalore, which is a wing of the RSS, are distributed in schools reflects the extent to which the BJP is saffronising education.
This dangerious trend will destroy the very future development of India.
Please keep it mind that without all inclusive society our ecenomy and developement will suffer. And if a section of the society will turn hostile, the economy will collapse.

    Mr Indudhar
Don't you talk about PUNYA KOTI if you do not know one thing about it. Do you know the song fully? Or the message it wants to convey? Have you read the lines- 'Satyave Namma Taayi Thande'? How ridiculous can your statements be based only on hogging/ Do not try to vitiate matters please without proper knowledge. We as kids have read, passed having 'Punya Koti' as one of the poems in our syllabus even before you were born. There was no turbulence then. Why rake it up now to create unnecessary ruckus? Just keep mum and concentrate on more important matters.

Now time has come to eradicate religion because throughout the world innocent people are being killed, their properties destroyed, and in general they are forced to live in an atmosphere of fear. It is better to eradicate all religions and give names alpha numerical names to all the earthizens of this world. All religions are good but all the religions have fallen into wrong hands. Every family now a days has become victim of this religious hatred. Everyone knows that God is one and he loves everyone. Then why we humans fight on the basis of religion. Intellectuals should shred their present ideologies of teh present selfish world and think something above it. Think of a society without selfishness and you will understand we are all NAKED.
Kindly change your attitude today itself and become pure human being. Then all words like saffronisation, talibanisation etc will become abject and out of context. Kindly start a movement to establish a untied world where there would be single religion, if required, a world all will have food, clothing and shelter distributed equally.

What is safronization of text book? Is there any material that bettiles minorities? Just because there are reference to hindu history does not mean that we condemn the textbook. This is country where 85% of the population do follow a culture that trace back to hinduisim..

Saffronisation is twisting folk stories like PUNYAKOTI and presenting them in a new political and communal way so that our future citizens will have a communal way of thinking.Saffronization means taking the incidents from history and trying to create hatred among these children so that they grow and fight for each others blood while politicians make billions dancing on the dead bodies...

@Sampath Shetty- They have clearly told that 'ancient indian culture' has been modified in the present text books. They have to strive to portray all people (of different caste, religion etc) as equal. India is great only if such methods are avoided.

If one speaks about the ancient Indian culture how can it be a Saffronisation ? Perhaps, all here would be happy if the book had contained the subject of Western Culture or British Empire or European tradition or Arab history. If the Books contains any message propogating hatred to other religion, then it is definetly wrong. But if they speak about the ancient Indian subjects, it is a natural truth, & no reference is required with colours.

Naturally there is a great conspiracy in the matter, not as alleged above, but by some unseen hands, who hectically try to defame the state government through some biased medias.

Can you please anyone define the simple word Secular. Really am getting laugh and feeling very sad to hear this word "secular" now days. This word is already hijacked. "Saitanana Bayalli Bhagavadgeeta". Some People misusing the word secular. Lot of organizations working on their own agenda under the banner of "Secular". I never believe some people who are gathering under banner of secular. They have their own hidden agenda. This kind of "secularists" are more dangerous than the well known communal organization. We know some communal organization and their activities very well, but we don't the people who are working for some communal organization under banner of Secular. Our political parties mainly BJP and Congress contributed much to the communalization of our society. Saffronization or mixing of any color to school curriculum is very dangerous. Our both mainstream political parties are contributing their own to destruct the social fabric of our county. Our countries future not depend on food habits of people. Please leave the matter of food habits to the people. They will decide their food.

Conspiracy to spoil the harmonious relation among the people in the society should be FIRMLY opposed. Branding people on the basis of their FOOD HABITS,FAITH, LANGUAGE, REGION etc. is UN-constitutional. Patriots will not mislead the nation they build nation, divisive forces creating rift in society are REAL traitors.

Securing the secular mind of the children right from the beginning of the formative years of schooling by inculcating a system of education wherein prevails equality and spirit of mutual respecting will lead to a healthy society. Programme held by the responsible citizens of our society deserves all applause and let us hope with the authorities to realize their accountability and for doing the needful in the curriculum for the sake of good society.
