Mangalore: High-handedness? Tourism Minister Snubs Waiting Media

Mangalore, Sep 17: Politicians are notorious for making people wait. Few programmes with politicians as chief guests start on time, and on Monday September 17 mediapersons of the city not only had a taste of the tourism minister's lack of time sense, but also his indifference.

Karnataka tourism minister B S Anand Singh was scheduled to visit Tannir Bavi here on Monday September afternoon, and as per arrangements, as many as 20 mediapersons from the city arrived at the spot on time. The minister was supposed to visit the proposed golf court that in Bengre.

The mediapersons reached Bengre at around 3 pm, but there was no sign of the minister. Surprisingly, none of the officials, or even the police had any clue about the minister's visit or his iterinary.

After a long, trying wait, legislative assembly deputy speaker Yogish Bhat informed on phone that Anand Singh would be visiting NMPT guest house in Tannir Bavi first.

The media then left for NMPT guest house, where Yogish Bhat and deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda had already reached. The minister was yet to arrive, and everyone including the media waited for him.

As soon as siren of the minister's car was heard, the mediapersons were up on their toes and cameras began to roll. The minister was welcomed by Yogish Bhat and the DC and all of them had a closed-door meeting while the media waited outside.

After another round of waiting that lasted 45 minutes, the minister along with the DC and Yogish Bhat emerged out of the room. The media expected to be briefed about projects, plans and other details, but it was not to be.

When Anand Singh did not address the media, the reporters followed him with an intention to ask a few questions. They requested him to spare them a few minutes, even as Yogish Bhat and the DC sat inside the minister's car.

As he lowered the car window, mediapersons asked him if he was aware that they had waited for more than two hours to be briefed. He brushed aside the question saying that he had informed a press person that he would address the media on spot, but had no time.

He moreover said that he could not identify the press person he had informed, as he was not familiar with any of the local mediapersons. With that, he left the spot without any more courtesy.

All in all, it was a wasted effort for the mediapersons, who were not only made to wait in vain but also snubbed.

I am not justifying the ministers action. However, the attitude of the media too is questionable. Most of the time, they arrive uninvited, to the programs attended by dignitaries and politicians...and expect an interview on the spot...It is better that media faces these ministers/ dignitaries in a formal press meet or meet the media program than mediamen pushing and pulling around for a sound/ video byte. (some politicians like that kind of scene anyway). Moreover, most mediamen go without any proper questions for the minister in question...they end up asking some controversial question, in anticipation of a breaking news...

He runs to Thirupathi temple twice in a month and takes VIP darshan without waiting for a minute in the queue. So, he does not know the meaning of waiting. They are the mining dons who think that they can purchase every thing through their ill-gotten money including God's blessing.

Politicians hold their post b'coz we have elected them. Lets not give them so much importance,, just ignore them for a couple of times, do not give any coverage to their functions and programe. If media can do that you win.
It is nothing new that politicians come late. Very rare that any politicians turn up on time for any of the functions or meetings.
He doesnt realy look anything close to a Tourism Minister. Looks like a tamil Actor in a movie..!
Also what good has the Tourism department done for Mangalore / DK Tourism anyaways..!!

WHY THE MEDIA RUNNING BEHIND POLITICIANS ? WHAT IS THERE TO COVER ? MEDIA ALSO MUST BE BLAMED FOR SPREADING AND PUBLISHING FALSE STATEMENTS GIVEN BY THE POLITICIANS.

PRESS CLUB IS MADE FOR THE PRESS MEETING . LET THE POLITICIAN MEET THE PRESS THERE ONLY . JOURNALISTS MUST NOT WAIT FOR ANYONE WHO FAILS IN REACHING IN TIME.

SHALL WE EXPECT THIS STEP FROM MEDIA ? CHANCES ARE VERY LESS

The politicians need not come all the way just to announce a new project or for laying foundation stones instead the local guest of honour (Any philanthropists or social activist) should do the needful and the project should be dedicated to the concerned minister who had projected or initiated it. On the other hand that minister should take extra interest to get the project completed in time.
If the project completes within the given period without any further price escalation then only that minister should be called with full honour that he rightly deserve. Otherwise they are public nuisance as they don’t keep up the time and their security personals and the party supporters behave high and mighty.
There are so many programs the ruling ministers announce or lay foundation stones are but a political stunt that never takes off.

People need to scrutinize the character of the person before electing him/her to office, irrespective of the party.

If we elect uneducated people it is futile to expect even basic courtesies. Money / fame or power cannot acquire Class - This can come only from a people with good family background / education. The least he could do was apologize, media would have been better off covering "home stay attack" asnd the likes, as it is none is interested in the welfare of the common man / country.
