Mangalore: Home Stay Attack - HC Notice to State on Media Coverage

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Sep 18: In connection with the various attacks that took place in the city between 2006 and 2012, including the recent attack on Padil home stay, the high court on Monday September 17 issued a notice to the the state government and the union information and broadcasting department.

The notice was issued by Justice VJ Sen and Justice BV Nagaratna based on a plea submitted by Louis G Pinto and 23 others blaming the media for the uncensored video footage.

The court issued notices to union information and broadcasting department, state government, state human rights commission, women commission, and Mangalore police commissioner.

Court also ordered an investigation against them.

Applicants blamed media for the uncensored video footage for an incident in 2006, pub attack in 2009 and for the recent resort attack. They stated that the media is doing such immoral things mainly to attract their readers. "Despite knowing about the incident well in advance, they do not inform the police," they alleged.

In this regard, they asked the court to reframe the guidelines and restrictions for the media.

How evil are our law makers what can a common man expect justice from them. Now public must form anti-moral police defence team that is the only option left out. Karnataka police lost it's credibility. Karnataka police are the goons in government uniform, this is the time we must work out in our defence.

This is called "shooting the messenger". Our state govt is known for god fathering the anti social elements. In the absence of proof through all the clippings, the story would have been presented by the goons as they wanted it to be. This is definitely a wrong move to gag the press.

What Media has done is right. Vested interests are trying to divert the attention of the court. This case is strong bcz media covered everything as proof to punish the culprits. Public came to know the truth bcz of media else there would not have been any proof and this incident too would have burried long ago.

What media did was right - to record the incident as it happened, only wrong from them is, they forgot to smudge the victims faces whilst broadcasting on TV etc., keeping the original safe and intact.

in lighter vein, may be there was a scramble from the BJP ministers!MLAs to get the recording!!!

Whatever issues in India are mere history. Once the incident happened, like the bouts, they occur once in a while.

This too will be forgotten or erased from our memories, sooner!

    Who needs justice by then?

You say media needs censorship but the so called unauthorized moral police does not need censorship or "LAGAM" from the lawmakers. That is what you are saying - right

There were so many other such moral Policing in Mangalore since last 5 years but in very few cases the culprits have been punished under the pretext that victims have not complained in writing. On the contrary the Police have humiliated the victims and their parents. So atleast in Homestay case there was proof only because of Media, otherwise in this case also the police would have let the HJV goons free and punished victims only.
Even before the Homestay attack Police knew this and they were in the crowd that is why they came without any lathi or without Lady Police. Atleast in this case the media has done right thing.

Regarding all the above mentioned video coverages, if there would have been no video coverage, definitely the whole story would have been twisted to support the culprits by the authorities and the victims would have been made the culprits. Media did not do anything wrong but shown the truth to the public what went wrong behind the scene.

The accused will soon be released once the court proceedings commence. Legal proceedings are such a hassle & humiliation in this nation that the victims may not come forward or be involved. On the contrary the video personnel may be grilled and arrested for not informing police on a timely basis and enjoying the shot. Its really a sad state of affairs.

Here in this incident media played a good role, only bcoz of this real culprits are in jail.

media rights should be re framed but at the same time govt allow media to show real thing and not the half story.

Police and Govt people will takes benifit if general public mis guided.

There are several incidents of moral policing in undivided DK where Police instead of arresting the culprit, supported them and detained the victims. This incident of MM attack came to light only because of Media and video footage. Media should show the truth, but should blow anything out of proportion

So now there will be no more problem in Mangalore area since Media refrained from reporting anything since it is censored. HC is justifiable since Media too need some kind of censorship because they blow the matter out of proportion too. That’s why we call there is a limit for everything

Court may be partially politically motivated.
Media may be required to be censored but media should be left free to bring out truth Media should not misguide public However, public is not stupid to know what is right or wrong. Media may be biased towards one party but public is intelligent enough to know the truth and findings.

We don't need a media like in Arab countries where total censorship is done. Nothing is known to anyone. India has democracy and everyone has his/ her opinions to expres...it does not mean media should take advantage - showing personal information and graphics. Yet times, we find Indian media shows too much of personal stuff including family member and thier identify Media need to safeguard personal identify.

Let the public know unedited version of moral policing and not a rosy picture of police intervention. Without the video footage, police will rightly deny such a thing has taken place!
