Mangalore, Sep 19: As reported in these columns earlier on September 13, Manish Karbikar, a 1998 batch IPS officer who was appointed as the new city police commissioner of Mangalore, took charge of the office on Wednesday September 19.

Interacting with mediapersons, he said that he would prioritize good police-public relationship during his stint.

"The police department works on various dimensions in any city of this country," he added.

A native of Chattisgarh, 39-year-old Manish said he would first familiarise himself with the city. "Every city in the nation is unique and the police department works as per the guidelines of the Indian Constitution and the law of the land," he said.

Earlier, IGP (Western Range) Pratap Reddy welcomed him to the office. He was given a guard of honour at the office premise.

DCP Mutthuraya among others were present.

Professional Experience: Karbikar is an electronics engineering graduate. He had served in BHEL for six months before joining the police department. A 1998 batch IPS, he has served as ASP in Bellary and also in Gadag, Mandya and the Rajbhavan.

Karbikar had also worked as police advisor in the International Peacekeeping Force placed in Sudan, North Africa, for one year. He was SP of crime branch cell, Bangalore, after which he was posted as the SP of Mysore. He has also served as the SP of Gulbarga. He was the DIG (civil rights enforcement), Bangalore prior to taking charge as Mangalore city police commissioner.

Karbikar replaces Seemanth Kumar Singh, who is currently undergoing training in Scotland.

Welcoming new Police Commissioner to Kudla is OK but advising him what to do and what not is just like advising a Doctor being advised by a patient what to do and what not.
One should understand that he has claimed to this coveted position with his own ability and capacity to deliver.....
Its anybody's guess whether he will go by these"pottu advises" in discharging his duty as new Police Commissioner of DK.

These greetings and good wishes come from distant America to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Karbikar to The Port City of Mangalore.

Welcome to Mr. Karbikar. I have had the pleasure of knowing most of the Police Officers in Mangalore and Bangalore. I take this opportunity to wish Mr. karbikar a very pleasant and fruitful tenure in Mangalore. Mangalore used to be a a very peaceful City some years ago but now there is the need to keep the City and suburbs peaceful and this can be done only if there is the presence of a good Police Officer to maintain law and order. It is understood that Mr. Karbikar has had a good history behind him and with his fund of knowledge, his effective methods and good administration he should be able to do a fine job in The Port City of Mangalore. My good wishes are with him.

Dr. Manish Kabrikar, Police Commissioner in Mangalore

Sir please enjoy Mangalore as long as you last there.
If you follow the path of righteousness as the earlier Commissioner lead, then you will be transfered or sent to Scotland for training. If you Satisfy BJP goonda ministers and the their gangs, without taking any actions against them for any crime they commit, then you can enjoy the hospitality of Mangalore, for the entire term and may be more, that is if BJP Govt. survives at the State level
    All the best
You will be safe and you will get lots of haftha share.
You have to decide right now - whether you want to become rich or be a pauper like the earlier commissioner.
    Have a great time.

First of all congratulations and I welcome shri Manish Karbikar-new police commissioner to Mangalore. But whether it is new commissioner or old commissioner the scenario of Mangalore will not change as long as Mangalore is controlled by politicians and Goondas and anti national activitists. It is like a old wine in the new bottle. However I wish Mr.Manish Karbikar all the best and hope something positive will come out of this and harmony will prevail. What we hope mangalore must be a role model for other cities. But one thing more the strict sooner the transfer.Best of Luck Mr.Karbikar.May God bless you to keep this city clean from all the evils existing now.

Mr.Karbilar you look good. Your 14 year service experience is quiet enough to deal with any of the situations at given point. Pick up good points of your predecessor. As the height, think tall & broad to overcome any eventualities. Since you have a passion for electronics use that system in the management system of traffic control. Ban life threatening bus horns & and bring them to decipline. If your people book a minimum of cases of traffic violations there is lot of relief to general public. Be aware of Sicio political antisocials and deal them accordingly. Wish you all the best in your pleasent job and career.

“ A sense of duty is useful in work but offensive in personal relations. People wish to be liked, not to be endured with patient resignation. Only aim to do your duty, and mankind will give you credit where you fail. There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences “

What is the big deal about the new commissioner. Our Police cannot do anything nor they can stop the anti social activists from assaulting women. The successor has to follow the predecessor. Ultimately the goons are free in Mangalore and they will carry out another attack after one or two years.

Any riots or communal fights or Culture protection incidents happen ,and if the Moral policing outfits are in a fix then there is a change of Commissioner in Mangalore. Lets wait and watch how many of them get the bail now. Or if this officer is sincere he will further nail them. The future of Mangalore on the basis of Police will be known by another couple of weeks. Lets wait and watch.
