24-Bogie Train Between Bangalore-Mangalore, Soon to be Extended to Karwar

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (VM)

Bangalore, Sep 21: The long-pending wish of the people of coastal region will finally be fulfilled as Indian Railways has planned to extend the night train plying from Bangalore to Mangalore up to Karwar.

The 24-bogie 'slip coach' train will arrive from Bangalore to Mangalore and then leave for Karwar with 12 bogies, railway officials said.

The prime benefit of increasing the number of bogies from 17 to 24 is that as many as 4,000 passengers can travel at a time.

Prior to the announcement, a test was conducted at the Shiradi Ghat by the department concerned with the help of railway research and development team from Lucknow. The train with 24 bogies was successfully run on Shiradi Ghat four times, only after which the railway depatment gave the green signal on the proposal.

The reports obtained by the research and development team were handed over to the railway safety commission. In response, the commissioner has asked for clarification on certain matters. Once the formalities are completed, the trains will begin to operate, said railway sources.

It may be recalled that the night train between Bangalore to Mangalore was started in 2007. Later in 2010, the department had decided to extend it to Kannur instead of Karwar. But the people of the coastal region have consistently demanded the train facility to Karwar.

Taking this into consideration, the above proposal is set up where the 24-bogie train will proceed to two destinations after reaching Mangalore. The 24 bogies will be divided into two with 12 bogies each, to which separate engines will be attached. Each 12-bogie train will then travel to Kannur and Karwar.

Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde was consistently following up this issue with the union railway minister. Speaking to daijiworld Hegde said that the new facility will be a boon for the people of coastal Karnataka.

thank your for all my countrymen. I deeply appreciate the great and popular job. Court also accepted our case in the writ without prejudice to our rights. Mr. Nayak Advocate, Mr. M. Ram Bhat Senior Advocate,Mr. Anil hegde of Yatri Sangha, Mr. Rajiv Gaonkar of Ankola all have equally contributed to this old demand.
All of us are very much indebted to the coastal Karnataka which has been our home of inspiration for crusading for public cause.

It is rather unfortunate that even such small works are to be done through the public interest litigation.

I am being one of the the petitioners in two petitions and the case where the direction was issued was filed by us is highly grateful to one and all who have deeply appreciated the efforts in this direction.

No doubt, ultimately an effort is made to take political advantage by major political parties, at least the direction of the same was complied by the Ministry of Railways.

The people of Konkan origin all over the world irrespective their present residence and domicile have appreciated this eforts by the Sangha and the advocates for thsi noble public cause.

This is where the contributions of advocates will be largely felt. It is the advocates community at large has been fighting in asistance by civil society for the causes like this.

Now , there is a pressing need to lay direct track between Bangalore to Hassan via Kunigal, then only, the present duration of journey of about 6 hours can be reduced. This is loke Suez Canal or Panama Canal in the oceans, to reduce the distance of the journey to MAngalore or KArwar from Bangalore CEntral or yeshwanthpur. Presently the train can join the Mangalore track either through Mysore- Hassan or Arasikere Hassan. Let us hope that this remarkable train will overcome all nascent hurdles and India being democtatic country where Govt./state must
ultimately yield to the legitimate demand of public in a larger public interest.

LEt us be grateful to all

Please advise Southern Railway to wash this train , clean the seats & toilets daily. It is shameful to see the condition of this train. This train can be awarded the 1st place for being the " filthiest " in India.

AC chaircar should be introduced on this train.

I request the Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry ( KCCI ) to do something for this train . This train seems orphaned and nobody to care for.It is really a filthy / stench filled train.

The timing is very good.It leaves Mangalore Central ( Hampankatta ) at 6.20am and reaches Madgao at 1.30pm ( fenny time )inspite of the million stops !

3 - 4 AC chaircar bogies should be introduced and attached to this train. It will then be a hit.

Committee Members of the KCCI should inspect this train at the earliest and advise the Southern Railway for better passenger service.

Mr.Denis Britto , I totally agree with you because I have recently travelled by that same train to Madgao with my family.

The bogies of this train are in a pathetic / filthy condition.Even at the Mangalore Central starting point, it is filthy and stinks.Even people sleeping on the railway platform are using the toilets of this train early in the morning to ease themselves. Please see and believe if what i've said is true.

3 - 4 AC chaircar bogies should be introduced on this route. The timing is good. The train leaves Mlr Central at 6.20am and reaches Madgao at 1.30pm.

The KCCI should do something about it.

The daily Mangalore - Madgao fast passenger train is in a bad condition. It seems as though it has not been washed for 15 years and is filthy. You feel dirty even to sit on the seat. The toilets stink very badly.

I advise people not to ever travel on this train although the timing is good. This train needs urgent attention including 3 bogies of AC chaircar like the Bangalore - Mysore trains.

It is railway horata samiti who filed public interest litigation (PIL) under the guidance of shankar bhat. Railways had no option but to extend the train service after repeated notice from HC last 3 years. 90% credit should go to railway horata samiti and 10% to JP hegde.

It's really a good news# It is because of our lethargy by our coastal area politician we had a step motherly treatment with regards to railways#We do have some senior most politician not doing anything for our coastal Karnataka with regards to new trains etc# Mangalore should move from Palghat division to Mysore division#This must be done on priority otherwise we will always problems#Kannadigas must be given employment opportunities in Managlore stations which is lacking#this is possible if Mangalore is moved frm Southern Railway to South Western Railway

It should be wonderful if the travel time is redused. Overnight train from Bangalore to Mangalore every day will be a real help. The same distance to travel from Bangalore to Chennai takes just 4 to 5 hours and there are dozens of trains. Alas! to Mangalore only one train that too going all the way through Mysore taking 11 to 12 hours.

Indeed a good news that the train will be converted into a slip train of 24 coaches and a part of it will be extended to karwar.

We hope that, the train even after extended to karwar will come to Mangalore Central station and from there it will be bifurcated to go to karwar and kannur.

We have seen that, the Bangalore- Mangalore day train when extended to karwar has been diverted from Mangalore Junction and stopped coming to Mangalore Central. We hope, this will not happen this time.

It is good to rejoice on such news. But trying a 24 boggie train only 4 times does not mean that 5th time it will not topple. Normally such trials are done at 1.5 times the critical condit
ions. i.e. 1.5 times the maximum speed and 1.5 times the maximum number of boggies. No one just tries at just equal to maximum criticality. What if the driver speeds up a bit more? What if the train dynamics on full load is different from running an empty train? Unfortunately safety is not considered important in India as it is done in other developed countries. Hope some one concerned has really done the home work. If this done only to satisfy politicians, poor passengers will be the victims.

During seasonal/festival times I can think of travelling in this train to avoid getting looted from private bus agencies.
