Mangalore: Navodaya Trust Gifts Uniforms to Self-help Groups

Mangalore, Sep 21: "Self-help groups have lighted every house in Dakshina Kannada and empowered women to lead a prosperous life in society. Women are the real makers of home... I thank Indian women because though there was inflation and economic crisis in the entire world, Indian women managed 36% savings for the country with their discretion in using food grains," said Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes.

He was speaking at a uniform distribution programme organized by Navodaya Gram Vikasa Charitable Trust held at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius College here on Friday September 21. On the occasion, uniforms were distributed to several self-help groups.

Oscar further said, "Self-help groups have instilled courage and leadership quality in rural women. They have even become prompt in repaying loans taken from particular banks. Our government has planned to provide 50% reservation to stabilize women in every area of society."

In the presidential address, SCDCC Bank president and chairman of Navodaya Trust M N Rajendra Kumar said, "The present moment is the happiest moment of my life. Today my heart is filled with enormous joy, as today we are not just distributing uniforms to self-help groups, but distributing clothing to my family. I have faced so many problems, so many criticized me but I never gave up. The intention behind distribution of uniforms is to gain social equality in society."

Rajendra Kumar also felicitated Oscar Fernandes and Nalin Kumar Kateel and termed them prompt and clean politicians.

He also added, "A 'vidhushaka' (clown) from BJP who is no more in that party had put impediments when I had wanted to organize a self-help group programme in Bantwal. "However, he declined to name the politician.

Addressing the gathering, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Rajendra Kumar is a glittering star, men like him are so rare in this world." He also urged Rajendra Kumar to join politics.

MD of Property Infra Tech Rohan Monteiro who is also a member of Navodaya lauded Rajendra Kumar and called him a good human being.

Oscar Fernandes, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Rohan Monteiro were felicitated on the occasion by Rajendra Kumar.

Blossom Fernandes, S M Bhaskar, Vadiraj , Radha Krishna Shetty, Sunil Kumar Bajjagoli, Vinay Kumar Surrinje, Gopal Krishna Bhat, Sudarshan, and others were present.

Bhaskar Kotiyan welcomed, Poornima Shetty, chief secretary of Navodaya Grama Vikasa Charitable Trust thanked the gathering and Manohar Prasad compered.
