Mangalore, Sep 21: The meeting of party workers of the backward class cell of DK district Congress committee was held at Shanthi Nilaya, Balmatta here on Friday September 21.

Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake addressing the party workers said that the DK district, once a strong base of Congress party, was being commanded by the BJP through its communal agenda which has divided the society. He insisted there is need to unite the people belonging to backward classes, thereby developing their condition in the society.
 
A C Venugopal, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Backward Cell president said that the party will urge the state government to provide free education for the backward class students as their income limit of Rs 1 lac (per annum) for category 1 should be withdrawn.

"There are 97 castes under category 1. The government should provide reservation for backward class people in the legislative assembly and council," he urged.
