Udupi: Four Ancient Idols Found on Banks of Sitanadi

Udupi, Sep 23: The discovery of four ancient idols on the banks of Sitanadi river at Barkur has created excitement among the locals. Beautiful idols of lord Ganesha, Naryanaguru, Saibaba, goddess Simhavahini Durge, carved out of white marble were recovered from the river.

The idols of lord Naryanaguru and Saibaba were one foot tall while the other idols were two feet in height.

According to the nearby historians, these types of marbles and carving styles resemble to the northern part of India. Hence it is assumed that the white marble was brought from North after which it was carved here. 

The idols of lord Ganesha, goddess Simha Durge can be installed together, whereas all the four idols cannot be installed at the same place, as told by historians. It might have been bought by some entrepreneur to be sold who might have tossed the idols to the river in fear. As the idols were thrown to the river some parts of the idol have been damaged.

The rumors spread created anxiety among the localities.
