Airbus 310 to Make Maiden Entry in Mangalore

Airbus 310 to Make Maiden Entry in Mangalore

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Sep 26: Hajj pilgrims will get an opportunity to fly by ‘Airbus A-310’ as the flight makes its maiden landing in Mangalore airport.

The Airbus 310 weighing 1.40 lac kilograms will land in Mangalore airport and take off with the first batch of 220 Hajj pilgrims on Friday September 28.

The airbus has been introduced to ensure smooth travel of Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, said airport authorities.

Earlier flights weighed 70,000 kilograms, because of which pilgrims had to depend on cargo planes to carry home cans of 'zam zam' holy water. "But this time the flight also provides cargo facilities," said M R Vasudev, director of Bajpe airport.

The first flight is scheduled to take off at 11.50 am from the Bajpe airport on September 28. The second batch will travel on September 29 and September 30 while on October 1 and 2, two more batches will be travelling for the pilgrimage.

All together, 1,200 pilgrims will be travelling from Bajpe airport.

Prior to announcing the Mangalore as international Airport, government to ensure the safety of passengers! Couple of AI Express flight diverted to Kerala, having difficulty in landing due to fog and visibility issues. Safety of passengers is priority, and international status is secondary. Let it continue as it is until extension of it’s runway OR go for bigger airport in some other location avoiding this table top where there is no scope of any expansion.

Length of runway is OK for 747 but the aircraft is not designed to maunual landing. So it is impossile.310 is capale of handling manually. No auto pilot mode. What about the aircraft weight.
Runway landing spot may not take the weight of 747.Iam still not happy for 310 for taking risk with The only difference of 30 more passangers!!!!Air India may be looking for crashing this aircraft.OK do it but not with passangers.mangalore airport is safe for 737/320 or any smaller aircraft unless they increase the runway

Good News that Air Bus :A-310 will be landing at Mangalore Airport to facilitate Haj Travellers by Air India's efforts. Congratulations to Mr. Vasudeva Rao, Airport Director at Mangalore airport for being the driving force behind this achievement. You have always thought and done best for Mangalore Aviation History.
Air India Manager in Mangalore, Mr. Melwin D'Sliva, has also worked meticulously, to ensure Air Bus A-310 can land in Mangalore. Hats oof to him too.
Lets stop passing judgements on new or old aircraft, long or wide bodied, aircraft etc..!! We should learn to appriciate efforts put in by concerned persons and authorities towards this ahievement.
This is just the beginning of new era in Aviation Industry in Mangalore & let us welcome it with open mind.
As soon as Civil Aviation Ministry s Mangalore Airport as International Customs Airport, we might see few more airlines operating International Flights soon from Mangalore. Lets be optimistic and think positive.
To all my Muslim Brothern Bon Voyage for Haj Travel to Mecca and Medina. Please pray for peace, Harmony and unity in our society..

Sometime back many here where complaining on safety in landing in this Airport...Perhaps now most are happy...This is the step of duel standards. Mangalore Airport doesn't list in top 10 Dangerous Airport. If equiped with latest technique, CAD III landing also can be done, & landing in thick clouds or rainy season would be easy. Sadly many here comment strait away , & less do they stress for modernaisation of present Airport.

    Friends,
A310 is the smallest aircraft in wide-body category and can land in Mangalore’s new runway. A320 and B737-800 are narrow body aircraft with lesser range and lesser configuration and cannot fly directly to Saudi without a intermediate technical stop for refuelling, whereas A 310 has grater range and has container/palletized loading facility (faster and easier than bulk loading) and can carry larger cargo. Therefore please don’t create panic among the travellers instead wish them good.

Not a good idea to breach International standard requirements.

Just like the BIA story, where the INTL airport commenced operation and approach roads to reach the airports were undone.

Minimum requirements of 9000 ft.. of runway be must be completed before starting any such operations.

Don't blame the tragedies, aftermath of it and state that both the pilots are sleeping, while it happened!

My Dear Muslim Bro/Sisters 1st of all I wish all hajj passengers safe and blessed journey. If Airbus 310 operating from Mangalore means it’s really good news that means our kudla airport has INT’L APT facility . But why Government not announcing its Int’l Airport ?? This is really sad. Every time Minister coming to Mangalore and saying will announce shortly Mlore int’l apt but days and years passing still not happening anything. Now all NRI’s as well as Travel Agent Association and Airline union and all staff have to do Strike protest to announce Mangalore International Airport or else our government will sleeping like baby. Unless baby Cray mother won’t feed. So I am requesting NRI.s joint hands together and will put our pressure to Government to Mangalore International Airport.

    Dear Ayub and Sachidanand...

Airport runway is 8,038 ft concrete and can handle easily 4 A310 at a time...Regarding Airport giving international standard it minimum needs 9000 ft..and the expansion is awaited from the state govt side...not from the centre side...There is no pressure from anyone to not call it a international airport...there needs to be much more facilities before it can be called a international airport...Second point of getting A380 no indian carrier has got it till now to fly...Third of regular A310 actually international flights of AirIndia express doent have A320 with it...And Jet and others domestic air carriers cant put it on domestic flight...So u people stop doing politics of each n every thing...

Airbus 310 is old aircraft so most of all airlines stop their A310 operation or converted this aircraft from passenger to fright.
May be its leased aircraft, because as per Air India fleet as of July 2012, present they don’t have A310 aircraft.

We should organize a protest march taking 1 lakh people in Mangalore and give the media coverage for a day or two on the International status for Mangalore airport then only Govt. will wake up from their slumber.

    Dear Sachidanand,
You are right the central government not willing to Mangalore as a international Airport, may be the pressure from Kerala politics. Mangalore is the commercial hub for coastal karnataka and there is huge lobby going on to degrade Mangalore. For Airbus A-310 kind of aircraft can land at 4800 Feet in a dry condition even in wet condition if you add 25%, its more than enough to land a major aircrafts in Mangalore. The tragedy happened in Mangalore was due to pilot error not because of Airport runway.

So, it is safe to land Air Bus 320 like air craft on Mangalore Runway!!!! So why not introduce same flight when we have peak summer time due to heavy passenger rush from Gulf Countries??? Does our Central Government pleasing our Muslim Brothers and Sisters by keeping an eye on next elections or willingly put their life on danger???? If our Central Ministry says Air Craft like Air India Express having 158 sitting capacity is not safe enough to operate from Mangalore Airport is the main hurdle for International Title for Mangalore Airport then how come they suddenly decided to land Air Bus 320 Air Craft???
