Mangalore, Sep 26: Hajj pilgrims will get an opportunity to fly by ‘Airbus A-310’ as the flight makes its maiden landing in Mangalore airport.
The Airbus 310 weighing 1.40 lac kilograms will land in Mangalore airport and take off with the first batch of 220 Hajj pilgrims on Friday September 28.
The airbus has been introduced to ensure smooth travel of Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, said airport authorities.
Earlier flights weighed 70,000 kilograms, because of which pilgrims had to depend on cargo planes to carry home cans of 'zam zam' holy water. "But this time the flight also provides cargo facilities," said M R Vasudev, director of Bajpe airport.
The first flight is scheduled to take off at 11.50 am from the Bajpe airport on September 28. The second batch will travel on September 29 and September 30 while on October 1 and 2, two more batches will be travelling for the pilgrimage.
All together, 1,200 pilgrims will be travelling from Bajpe airport.
