Mangalore: Muscle Power Reigns at 'Raymond Classic' Contest

Mangalore, Sep 28: It was a show of sheer muscle power and strength as bodybuilders from in and around the district contested for the '2012 Raymond Classic' at Town Hall here on Thursday September 27.
The 2012 Raymond Classic, the district-level body building contest was organized by Raymond’s Gym in association with South Canara Amateur Body Building Association.
The event was held to mark the 15th anniversary of Raymond’s Gym.
Kishan Devadiga of Raymond's Gym was the star of the evening winning the '2012 Raymond Classic' Award. Prakash D'Souza of Handsome Multi-gym, Beeri Kotekar was adjudged the 'Most Muscular 2012'.
Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by lighting the auspicious lamp by the dignitaries present on the dais, namely M S Kumar, Ivan D’Souza, Arun Kumar, Mahesh Kumar Kodical, Raymond D’Souza and Wifred D’Souza.
Speaking on the occasion, M S Kumar said, "Today, I remember the moment when Raymond won the Bharath Shree in Bangalore, way back in 1986." He also showed the wrist watch that Raymond had gifted him in 1986 after winning that competition.
Raymond has maintained his body and kept fit till date, he said, and said that he was happy to see the response to the event.
In his address, Ivan D'Souza said that people like Raymond and other bodybuilders were the reasons for the increase in number of gyms in Mangalore. "A bodybuilder is more attractive than a film star. Body building is a tougher sport compared to any other and hence government help is a must," he said.
The body building competition enthralled the audience who were present in large numbers.
