Kasargod, Sep 28: Mushrat Jahan of Muslim League has been elected as the president of Manjeshwar gram panchayat. The elections were held on Thursday September 27.

Mushrat won 12 votes while her counterpart Vinay Bhaskar from BJP won 7.

Suprisingly, Mushrat also got a vote each from BJP and SDPI.

BJP member Tulsidas is said to have voted in favour of Mushrat, which has created some unrest among the BJP circles.

The elections were held following the resignation of former president Fathimath Zohra.

The vote in favour of Mushrat from an SDPI member too has anguished the party supporters in Machchampady. Rumours are doing the rounds that the SDPI member, a woman, had been promised the post of the standing committee president by the League in exchange for her vote.
