Udupi, Sep 29: "The land used by a particular community for cremation under gram panchayat should also be utilized by other community people", said Dalit Sangharsha Samithi.

Sundar Master, state committee member and Prabhu Gujjarabettu, district convener addressed the media after visiting the disputed cremation land along with other members here at Uchila on Thursday September 27.

The gram panchayat had allotted 1.56 acres of cremation land for the use of all communities, but one of the community is under the false assumption that the land is meant only for them.

The cremation land allotted by the government should be meant for all people and not restricting to a single community, said Prabhu.

Prabhu asked concerned officials to solve the land dispute by October 15. Dalith Sangharsha Samithi also warned of protesting on the streets if their demand are not fulfilled.

When MLA Lalaji Mendon was contacted regarding the cremation land, he replied saying that he would allot a separate land for Dalit’s, said Sundar.

"Even Lalaji is discriminating Dalit’s with other communities", he alleged.

A memorandum was submitted to the district administration and a positive response was received from them.

Shyamraj Birthi, vice president, Parameshwar Uppoor, taluk convener, Kapu Shivaram, Dinakar, Uchila convener among others were present.

It is unjust, anti-constitutional and inhuman to deny dalits the rights which are guaranteed by the constitution itself.
Cremation ground is meant for all- including dalits.
