Mangalore: Konkani Sahitya Academy Hosts Unique Programme for Women

Mangalore, Sep 30: ‘Konkani Stri’, a unique programme for women was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Lalbagh here on Saturday September 29.
 
Usha Kini, show performer at Doordarshan, Bangalore inaugurated the programme and Academy president Kasargod Chinna presided.

Jayashree Shanbagh, former director, Akaashvani, Judith Mascarenhas, social worker, Gladis Rego, B Devdas Pai, registrar shared the dais.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Usha Kini said that Doordarshan is the only one channel where Konkani programmes are telecasted. "There is also a proposal of adding more Konkani programmes. For this we would seek help from the academy," she said.
 
"Let us all work together along with the academy in all the Konkani programmes and hold our language high," she added.
 
Kasargod Chinna in his address said that the academy was proud to organize such a unique programme mainly for women. He praised the contributions made by Jayashree Shanbagh and Gladis Rego towards Konkani language.
 
He also made a mention of the importance and sacrifice made by women to the society along with their family.
 
He asked women to come forward in the society with their hidden talents rather being stuck at one place and also asked them to accept each others efforts and talents, rather than commenting on it.
 
On the occasion, the academy honoured Jayashree Shanbagh and Gladys Rego for the contributions made by them to Konkani language.
 
As a part of the entertainment programme, Joy’s Ozario and Vidya Gulvadi performed along with their team.
 
Shila Nayak welcomed the gathering, Smitha Prabhu compered and Bhavya Pai proposed vote of thanks.

    ‘Konkani Stri’, is indeed a unique programme as it acknowledges and appreciates the work of women for Konkani. The contribution of women to any language is immense. They silently contribute and keep the language alive. My special compliments to Mrs Gladys Rego. She is restless for Konkani.

    Congratulations to all honored women in the field of Konknai language and culture. Keep up the good work and promote Konkani further. God bless you always. Nice to see Jayashree after 32 years as we worked togethr in telecasting my 10 farces on All India Radio, Mangalore when I was there in late 1970's. Good job Kasargod Chinna.
