Pay More for Passport, Renewal from Oct 1

Bangalore, Sep 30 (DHNS) : The Ministry for External Affairs (MEA) has increased the cost of passport and related services, with effect from October 1.

The move will increase the cost of obtaining a regular passport by Rs 500 to Rs 1,500. A release by the MEA stated that costs related to expenditure, procurement of equipment, reimbursement to police authorities, payment to India Posts, printing of passport booklets, personalisation costs, IT expenses and contractual payment to service providers had all increased in the last ten years, necessitating an increase in the fee. The last revision of fees was in 2002, when the passport fee was increased to Rs 1,000 from Rs 300 for a normal application.

Accordingly, the rates from October 1 will be Rs 1,500 for normal applications, Rs 3,500 for tatkal applications and Rs 1,000 for minor applications. The fee for police clearance certificate has been increased to Rs 500 from Rs 300.

For Indian citizens living abroad, the revised fee would be US$ 75 (up from US$ 40) and Euro 60 (up from Euro 48) for normal applications.

The ministry in the last few years has changed the way passport services have been delivered. Under the Passport Seva Project, the ministry has set up 77 Passport Seva Kendras, to process passport applications. In the last few months, the ministry has started to make services more friendly after  complaints from people about inability to get appointments and lack of proper guidance at the Kendras.

People will not mind paying little higher Fees for new Passport or Renewal. But the Fuss Passport Officers make for smallest difference in Spelling, is most irritating. After all our Village Panchayat clerks are not Oxford educated. And always there is slight difference in spellings used by different linguistic groups for the same name in different parts of India. Even in Ration Cards used as address proof the name & Address is written in both Kannada & English, but while translating from Kannada to English the Ration Card Office always makes atleast two mistakes. For example ‘Mohammad’ is written as Mammad, or Mommada in Ration Card in English, and the Passport Officer raises big objection about this. After all English has been considered as the most Unscientific language.
We can write the name “Srinivas” in 160 different ways by playing jugglery with spelling as follows:
    (1) Srinivas, Sreenivas. Srienivas, Sreinivas, Srynivas.
    (2) Shrinivas, Shreenivas, Shrienivas, Shreinivas, Shrynivas.
    (3) Sriniwas X 10 types as above 1 & 2.
    (4) Srinyvas X 20 types as above 1-2-3.
    (5) Srinivasa X 40 types as 1-2-3-4.
    (6) Srinivaas X 80 types as 1-2-3-4-5.

Just imagine in how many different ways one can write the name of mile long Andhra Pradesh People, for ex - Akkineni Veenapani Srinivasababu Nayidu.

As it is very easy to dupe the people with English spelling the Indian Numerologists have ed English language as if even the pure Indian GOD of LUCK also can read only English Alphabets and can not read any Indian Languages including Sanskrit. Even Sanathani BJP/RSS people also changed the spellings of their names to bring luck in Elections. We do not know what problems they faced in their Passport Renewal & Visa during their recent infamous foreign study tour.

Your statement "Money grows by LOOTING from common man and country's resources" applies to current state goverement which happened to be BJP at this time.

Three CMs in four years and one of thes ethree went to jail on corruption charges.

You have to be little reasonable in UPA criticism and comments.

Whatever we had to pay we already paid in advance.. its with yeddyurappa , janardhan reddy , and with jagadish shettar. Instead of taking from us, Govt should take money from them for all purpose.
no problem paying more for PP renewal …. Better I’ll suggest use this money for training staffs, because whenever you go to Passport office, they will irritate you a lot, even if you have enough proof documents.

I think most of us have no problem to pay extra money to renew or apply for new Passports with new charges, provided quality & service should improve drastically too. It’s true that money does not grow in tress so they have to target common public only. But same time our highly (!!!) respected PM then held the Ministry of Minerals but never objected to allot Coal Mining on reduced price to our richest MP Jindal in return his Company sold the power at higher rate than compare to Government owned Power Company. I think even Jindal too argued with PM that money does not grow in tress and he has to loot common public only. But I am surprised to see none of our opposer to Bellary Mining Business are whispering a single word regarding mining issue any more! Even “Dance Raja Dance” artists Siddlu or Paramesha or Poojary are not talking about mining issue any more? More over our most fascinated “Spokesperson” Mr. Diggu even said that Mining is no more natural resources. And author of “Zero Policy” theory Kapil Sibal is searching for new venue to explain “One More Zero Policy Theory” elsewhere too. But poor Kapil Sibal does not understand the meaning of “Suffix” and “Prefix” while writing “Zero” with figures

Passports is only a international travel document. I don't see a role of BJP to protest. They'll be happy for the people who wants to get out of the country.

Best protest would be that people exchange it for some other citizenship!

So sad, the revision was last made in 2002! So it is very necessary to revise it again. But wait, What about the rule that was made in 1964 or 1967 regarding the gold that can be carried from foreign countries. Only those rules will be changed which will benefit the government. Actually their personal pockets(directly or indirectly)

I only hope overseas embassy issued passports are duly registered in Indian databases.

My application for additional booklet, having had the passport for 30 years and traveled 40 times in & out of the country, it took 32 days to issue after registering so many complaints & contacting the External affairs ministry.

Increase in the fee does not help. Rather change in the mind set of the people, only will.

One of my freinds passport came in complete disaster, nobody could read his name and address (the letters were overlapping), with an complaint to the passport authorities, they sent another one within a week but forgot to include the birth date on it. So the third time my freind received it on..ok ..ok..condition...

Citizens of India can afford the increase of cost of Passport by the way people’s salary has been increased 5 times from 2002 to till now. But the Government of India should take the measure to issue a passport not less than 1 week and not more than 3 weeks. Sometimes it will take 2 months and even more than that also we know the reason one only the police verification, most of the time when passport arrives to SP office for the verification it will take more than 1 month (from SP office to local police station and from local police station to SP office then to the passport department no one has dare to ask why the passport has been sleeping on the table of police department for 1 month).

Ministry of External Affairs/Passport Department make sure that the passport should issued within 3 weeks and Ministry of External Affairs/Passport department should give ultimatum to police department to finish all the police verification formalities within 10 days unless and until genuine reason. M EA assure the time for issue of Passport .
