Mangalore, Sep 30: The eighth 'World Heart Day Run - 2012' was organized jointly by KMC and Corporation Bank on Sunday September 30 at 7 am.

The marathon commenced at TMA Pai International Convention Centre and culminated at KMC Hospital, Jyothi.

Indian cricketer Sunil Joshi, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Krishna Palemar, police commissioner Manish Karbikar, Corporation Bank chairman and MD Ajai Kumar, KMC hospital COO Pramod Alagharu, KMC dean Dr M V Prabhu and others were the dignitaries present on the dais.

The marathon was initiated by handing over a torch to national-level sportsman Subrahmanya K M by the diginitaries during the formal inaugural function held prior to the run.

Adressing the gathering, Nalin said that heart diseases are increasing at an alarming rate in the present day. "We get a many applications for help by those suffering from heart diseases," he said.

Manish Karbikar urged the public to keep the heart healthy and active whether they are young or old. He also said that the event seemed to be like Valentine's Day rather than Heart Day.

Palemar lauded KMC and said that it has been a role model institute as it has been creating awareness among the general public about diseases. "These sort of events are a must," he added.

Thousands, irrespective of age, participated enthusiastically in the marathon. They passed through MG Road-PVS Circle-Bunts Hostel and ended at KMC hospital, Jyothi.

Nice to hear from Mr Manish Karbikar, the new police commissioner of police that the Heart day rather looks like Valentines day, while everyone was in RED and he too said " May be we are 25 or 50, SOMETHING should happen in everyones heart" and its made possible by KMC.

OSWALD VAZ, THOTTAM/BAHRAIN keep the advise to yourself first. First check what you are first before advising others.

Adithi, Salian, your comments clearly indicates you always give political image for everything. Today is world heart day and this is not any political meeting.
