Mysore: Chained Girl Married off to Lover

Mysore: Chained Girl Married off to Lover

Mysore, Oct 1 (TNN): Samira, the teenager who was chained for eight months allegedly by her father, got married to her lover Mujideen here on Sunday.

Samira's father Afsar Pasha had allegedly kept his teen daughter chained at their Sathyanagar house here for the past eight months. The boy, who was in love with her, informed the police. The police raided the house and arrested Afsar. He was released on bail later.

The boy, a mechanic, has been in love with Samira for the past two years. About eight months ago, jurisdiction police warned the boy against meeting Samira, who was then a minor. Ever since, the girl was confined to the house. However, she kept meeting Mujideen at family functions.

The community leaders on Sunday decided to get them married, much to the opposition of the girl's family. However, the family was convinced later and the wedding went on as per rituals.

    Its not agreeable that love marriage is better than arranged. Its works well but only for few...

    But your point is valid, one should not force any girl for marriage and without her consent!

    @Rakesh / Nagesh,
    I guess beating, robbing, molesting, raping and murder is a part of our Karnataka culture.
    I would still prefer Valentine’s Day celebrations. Happy marriage to this couple.

    Thank God! They did not get her married off to some rich old man. Normally in such cases, parents take extreme steps out of desperation. May Allah bless the young couple. May this be an eye opener to other parents going thru similar situations.
