October 4 : Five Airports to get International Status ?

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) : Several airports in tier-II cities are likely to be designated international if a civil aviation ministry proposal on the issue is approved by the Union Cabinet tomorrow.

The airports likely to be in the list are those in Lucknow, Varanasi, Tiruchirapalli, Mangalore and Coimbatore, official sources said.

The conversion of a domestic airport into an international one primarily entails creation of immigration facilities and deploying manpower to carry out these tasks.

There are 454 airports and airstrips in the country of which the state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) owns and manages 97 airports and 28 civil enclaves at defence airfields.

While 16 of them have been designated as international airports so far, there are several other airports designated as 'limited international', for a restricted number of global flights from there.

The government plans to have 500 operational airports by 2020 and aims to attract private investment in aviation infrastructure to meet this end.

Joy Castelino, I hope you have read the news now. Now you know his promise was not false. In the past one of our own businessmen betrayed him by making false promises of investing over a thousand crores to build a new international airport near Padubidri. I don't want to name this businessman. At that time there were other business houses who wanted to invest, but Moily denied them the opportunity believing in our own person, who finally backstabbed him and poor Mr. Moily took all the blame.............

Mr. Veerappa Moily need not do anything for the people of Coastal Katnataka as he does not represent us. He is the MP from Chickaballapur. Therefore it is stupid for people to blame Moily. Yet, he goes out of the way to help his home district, in spite of a lot of ungrateful people making unwanted comments about him. Nobody speaks of our own useless MP Nalin Kumar. Can someone tell me of one good thing that he has managed to do for the district in the last 3 years. Mr. J. P Hegde in spite of being an MP only for a few months, can be seen and heard regularly speaking and pushing for development of his constituency at the national level. He is in constant touch with the union ministers and even the PM to get things done.

Some people thinks giving the International standards and announcing airports as International AirPort is very easy.
Its not easy as naming a child...
And that too Airports like Mangalore which are Table top, will take time for announcing as international airport.

Let all of us praise Mr. Moily this time, though we condemned him several time for delay. Finally we will have Mangalore International Airport title and more & more International Flights will land in Mangalore Airport and monopoly of Air India Express will end soon. Let us all together make requests to all our MPs’ to be present in Parliament on 04th Oct’12 and pass the bill unanimously. I hope Mr. Vasudeva, Manager of Mangalore Airport will ready with new board and water canon for first arrival of any Air Craft after the announcement of International Airport. I would request Mr. Vasudeva to purchase one beautiful garland to welcome Mr. Moily on behalf of all Coastal people too

It is very good news for all Mangloreans as their Airport is going to from customs Airport to International Airport. Now the Monopoly of Air India is going to finish. Once the International status has given they have to allow other airlines too to operate from Mangalore. Hope Jet Air will be the first one to introduce Direct flight from Mangalore to Dammam. Now all the organizations from eastern province can start fresh negotiations with the concerned authorities..Best of luck..Thanks to Congress Party and specially to our own J P Hegde and Moily ..
