Kundapur, Oct 4: Kundapra Kannada, a dialect unique to Kundapur is now going to be the chief flavour of a movie.

'Chikku' a movie based on the story ‘Avalambitharu’ by writer Vaidehi, will capture the uniqueness of the Kundapra Kannada and bring it alive on the silver screen.

"None of the movie makers have succeeded in encouraging the unique Kannada dialect, viz Kundapra Kannada till now. Hence, an art movie is on the pipeline in which we have made maximum use of local environment and its grandeur," said Sathish Ballal alias Raj Ballal, a Kundapur-based director.

Explaining the theme of the movie to reporters at a veranda of a village house in Halthur, Ballal said that the movie is based on the story ‘Avalambitharu’ written by Vaidehi. Ballal became famous after making the Tulu movie ‘Kaala’.

“Kundapra Kannada proverbs, sayings and other words are used in the movie. The flavour of Kundapra Kannada is a guaranteed ingredient in the movie,” he added.

Ballal said that he would complete the movie by December end and further added that he also has a role in the movie.

The movie has already been made Tulu and Kodava languages, and is now all set to be made in Kundapur's Kannada dialect.

Storyline

The story revolves around a poor and innocent girl who is used for selfish ends. Chikku, the female lead, has had her teenage hopes and dreams crushed and is meted out inhuman treatment. Sadguru Filmistan is producing the movie, and Yakshagana art and regional festivals are being inculcated in the movie. The name ‘Chikku’ also resembles a deity. The positive role in the movie is played by M D Pallavi of 'Mayamriga' fame. She is an accomplished singer and has also acted in a Kannada movie ‘Gulabi Talkies’. Laxmi Hegde plays a negative character in the movie.

Former MLA B Appanna Hegde, writer Shivanand Karanth, Venkatesh Bangalore, director Ramamurthy, Shivaprasad, actress Ayisha, U S Shenoy among others were present.

Very good effort. Not only Kundapuris, but all the people of DK-Udupi-UK should give encouragement to this brave attempt.
Movie in Arey-Bhashe (Gowda-Kannada) is also required.
